Shepherd Volleyball Wins Pair; Lindblad Reaches 1,000-Kills Mark

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The Shepherd University volleyball team (6-0) gained a pair of wins in volleyball action at the University of Charleston on Friday. The Rams gained a 3-2 (25-23, 23-25, 20-25, 25-15, 15-11) win over Urbana (1-3) in an early match and added a 3-2 (23-25, 25-16, 25-22, 23-25, 15-13) triumph over host University of Charleston (2-4) in a later match. Senior outside hitter Peyton Lindblad (Spotsylvania, Va./Riverbend) reached the 1000-kills mark for her career as she had 12 kills against Urbana and added 17 against Charleston to push her career total to 1,004.

Senior outside hitter Cambriea Hill (Columbia, Md./Hammond) added 12 kills and nine digs for the Rams in the win over UC.

Senior libero Imani Major (Gainesville, Va./Millbrook) posted a match-high  23 digs, while freshman outside hitter Mikaylah Hoy (Sharpsburg, Md/Heritage Academy) had 16.

Junior setter Jessica Karcz (Westminster, Md./Westminster) contributed 29 assists, while freshman setter Mackenzie Mahon (Culpeper, Va./Loudoun Valley) added 11. Sophomore middle hitter Georgia Ohmke (Falls Church, Va./Justice) and freshman middle blocker Elyssia Smith (Fredericksburg, Va./Colonial Forge)  each paced the Rams with seven blocks each.

Rachel Phalen had nine kills and seven digs for the Golden Eagles. Kelsey Matusic added 17 digs.

Complete stats from the match against Urban were unavailable.

The Rams return to action on Saturday when they travel  to West Virginia State to face host West Virginia State a 1 p.m. and West Virginia Wesleyan at 4 p.m.
