SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. -- Shepherd University and Frostburg State battled to a 1-1 tie in women's soccer action in the season opener for both schools at Shepherd on Thursday afternoon.
Shepherd took a 1-0 advantage at the 19:24 mark. Freshman forward/midfielder Sara Hohn (Frederick, Md./Thomas Johnson) scored on a pass from sophomore defender/midfielder Braden Pickett (Morgantown, W.Va./University) off a corner kick from junior midfielder Emma Bernardoni (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville).
The Bobcats tied the game when Audra Curtin scored an unassisted goal at the 31:24 mark.
Shepherd had a 29-23 advantage in shots and a 9-8 edge in corner kicks.
Sophomore goalkeepers Lulu Fricks (Alexandria, Va./Hayfield) (4 saves 0 GA) and Meghan Byers (Clear Spring, Md./Clear Spring) (5 saves, 1 GA) combined for nine saves for the Rams. Taylor Longworth (5 saves, 1 GA) and Emily Faust (7 saves, 0 GA) teamed for 12 saves for the Bobcats.
The Rams return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Shippensburg for a 1 p.m. contest.
