WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Robbie Heath scored 24 points and Malik Jackson added 21 to lead 10th-ranked West Chester (12-0, 6-0) to an 84-77 win over Shepherd University (6-6, 2-4) in PSAC men's basketball action at West Chester on Friday night.
Freshman guard Daniel McClain-Corley (Clinton, Md./Massanutten Military Academy) led the Rams with a career-high 19 points. He hit on 7-of-8 field goals with a 4-of-5 effort from three-point range. He was 1-of-1 from the foul line.
Senior guard Thomas Lang (New Market, Md./Linganore) added 17 points and also connected on 4-of-5 three-pointers.
Sophomore guard Jon Preston (Brandywine, Md./Rock Creek Christian) and junior guard Cam Stephens (Bunker Hill, W.Va./Musselman) each added nine points, while junior forward Kyle Daggett (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) grabbed a team-high six rebounds.
Josh Samek added 12 points and 12 rebounds for the Golden Rams.
West Chester had a 41-37 lead at the break.
Shepherd tied the score late in the game at 73-73 on a three-pointer by Lang with 2:30 remaining. West Chester took the lead for good on a three-pointer by Heath with 2:07 left.
Shepherd connected on 41.9 percent (26-62) from the floor with a 37.9 percent (11-29) performance from beyond the arc for the game. The Rams hit 73.7 percent (14-19) of their free throws.
West Chester shot 47.2 percent (25-53) from the floor with a 45 percent effort (9-20) from three-point range. The Golden Rams shot 61 percent (25-41) from the charity stripe.
West Chester had a 45-29 rebounding edge. The Rams forced 14 turnovers and committed 10.
The Rams return to action on Monday when they travel to Bloomsburg for a 7:30 p.m. contest.
