Shepherd Softball Sweeps Shippensburg

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. –  Shepherd University (14-1, 10-0 PSAC East) swept Shippensburg (1-7, 1-7 PSAC East) in PSAC softball doubleheader action at Shippensburg on Sunday. The Rams recorded a 5-2 win in game one and added a 5-4 victory in the nightcap. The Rams run their win streak to 12 games. 

The Rams plated five runs on five hits in the sixth inning in game one to rally for the win. Sophomore outfielder Hannah Beeler (Greencastle, Pa./Greencastle-Antrim), senior second baseman Leann Brown (Hume, Va./Fauquier), and sophomore designated player Cameron Davis (Ayden, N.C./South Central/UNC Pembroke) each drove in a run to highlight the rally.

The Raiders added a run in the sixth on a home run by Maelynn Leber. 

Beeler went 2-for-2 to pace the Rams. 

Sophomore pitcher Katie Laing (Jefferson, Md./Brunswick) (5.2 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 3 K, 3 BB) (5-0) earned the win. Briana Small (5.0 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 3 K, 3 BB) (0-1) took the loss for Shippensburg. 

Leading 2-0 in the nightcap, Shepherd took a 5-0 lead in the third on a three-run blast by junior first baseman Tori Seymour (Winchester, Va./Sherando). 

The Raiders answered back in the third with a pair of runs as Hannah Marsteller had an RBI-triple and scored on a single by Taylor Radziewicz. 

Leber hit a solo homer in the fourth to cut the lead to 5-3. 

Shippensburg added a run in the seventh on an RBI-groundout by Morgan DeFeo. Taylor Myers followed with a single but was caught stealing to end the threat. 

Seymour, Brown, and Beeler each had a pair of hits for the Rams. 

Freshman pitcher Hannah Ruffner (Charles Town, W.Va./Washington) (7.0 IP, 6 H, 4 ER, 2 Ks, 2 BB) (3-0) gained the win for the Rams. Tressa Kagarise (3.0 IP, 6 H, 5 ER, 1 K, 1 BB) (1-4) took the loss for the Raiders. 

The Rams return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Frostburg State for a 2 p.m. doubleheader.
