SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Shepherd University (21-8, 17-7 PSAC East) split with West Chester (14-6, 10-6 PSAC East) in PSAC softball doubleheader action at Sara Cree Field n Tuesday. The Rams rallied for a 4-3 in game one and West Chester gained the split with a 13-6 win in 10 innings in the nightcap.
West Chester took a 1-0 lead in the first inning game one on an RBi-single by Jaime Klemas.
Klemas added a two-run triple in the third to give the Golden Rams a 3-0 lead.
Shepherd scored a run in the fifth as sophomore outfielder Kylie Condon (Charles Town, W.Va./Washington) reached on a single and later scored on an error.
The Rams staged a two-out rally in the seventh to plate three runs to earn the win.
Freshman catcher Olivia Reese (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) doubled and moved to third when sophomore outfielder Hannah Beeler (Greencastle, Pa./Greencastle-Antrim) reached on an error. Senior outfielder Allison Baker (Fredericksburg, Va./Stafford) followed with a single to score Reese.
Junior third baseman Nicole Purtell (Centreville, Va./Centreville) singled to score Beeler and Baker moved to third. Senior second baseman Leann Brown (Hume, Va./Fauquier) followed to deliver the game-winning hit when she singled to right to score Baker.
Purtell and Reese each had a pair of hits for the Rams.
Bri Garber went 3-for-4 to pace the Golden Rams.
Junior pitcher Sarah Lamper (Marshall, Va./Fauquier) (4.0 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 3 Ks, 2 BB) (7-3) gained the win in relief. Mary Picozzi (6.2 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 0 ER, 3 K, 0 BB) (6-3) took the loss.
West Chester scored seven runs on four hits in the top of the 10th inning to gain a 13-6 win in the nightcap. Klemas had a two-run double to key the rally.
Purtell went 4-for-5 to lead the Rams. Beeler and Baker each added three hits.
Garber went 4-for-6 to lead West Chester. Courtney Stump, Grace Aguilar, and Olivia Mock added three hits apiece.
Picozzi (5.0 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 0 K, 1 BB) (7-3) gained the win for the Golden Rams. Sophomore pitcher Katie Laing (Jefferson, Md./Brunswick) (5.1 IP, 12 H, 10 R, 8 ER, 1 K, 4 BB) (7-3) took the loss.
The Rams return to action on Friday when they host Lock Haven for a 2:30 p.m. doubleheader.
