Shepherd Softball Drops Pair at Millersville

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. –  Shepherd University (18-7, 14-6 PSAC East) dropped a pair of games to Millersville (15-9, 9-9 PSAC East) in PSAC softball doubleheader action at Millersville on Friday. The Marauders posted a 6-5 victory in nine innings in game one and added a 7-2 win in the nightcap. 

Shepherd took a 1-0 lead in the first inning in game one as senior second baseman Leann Brown (Hume, Va./Fauquier) reached on a fielder's choice and later scored on a single by sophomore designated player Cameron Davis (Ayden, N.C./South Central/UNC Pembroke). 

Millersville tied the game in the bottom of the frame as Rebecca Blatt walked and later scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Gabi Turner. 

The Marauders took a 2-1 lead in the second on an RBI-single by Blatt. 

Shepherd plated three runs in the third to take a 4-2 lead. Junior first baseman Tori Seymour (Winchester, Va./Sherando) had a two-run single to key the rally. 

The Rams added a run in the fourth as senior outfielder Allison Baker (Fredericksburg, Va./Stafford) doubled and later scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Brown. 

Aleese Angelo hit a three-run homer for the Marauders in the fifth to tie the game. 

Baker went 2-for-3 to pace the Rams. 

Angelo and Faith Willenbrock each had three hits for Millersville. 

Alex Schaefer (5.0 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 7 K, 0 BB) (4-2) gained the win. Junior pitcher Sarah Lamper (Marshall, Va./Fauquier) (3.0 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 6 Ks, 3 BB) (5-2) took the loss in relief. 

Millersville scored four runs in the fourth in the nightcap to take a 7-0 advantage. Alyssa Stover had a two-run single to key the scoring. 

Davis belted a two-run homer in the sixth to complete the scoring. It was her fifth round-tripper of the season. 

Angelo went 2-for-3 with a two-run homer for the Marauders. 

Maddie Guinana (5.1 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 2 K, 0 BB) (5-4) gained the win. Lamper (2.1 IP, 3 H, 3 ER, 4 Ks, 5 BB) (5-3) took the loss. 

The two teams return to action on Saturday for a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Sara Cree Field.
