WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – Shepherd University (4-6) split a pair of games at The Spring Games in Florida on Sunday. The Rams recorded a 6-1 win over Bentley in the earlier game and dropped a 3-2 decision to Post in eight innings in the later contest.
Senior third baseman
Nicole Purtell (Centreville, Va./Centreville) and junior catcher
Alex Mantz (Edinburg, Va./Central) each had a pair of hits and drove in two runs to lead the Rams against Bentley.
Graduate student infielder
Leann Brown (Hume, Va./Fauquier) and junior outfielder
Kylie Condon (Charles Town, W.Va./Washington) each added a pair of hits.
Sabrina Grizzaffi went 1-for-3 with an RBI-double to lead Bentley.
Junior pitcher
Katie Laing (Jefferson, Md./Brunswick) (5.0 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 3 K, 2 BB) (2-1) earned the win for the Rams. Payton Doiron (2.1 IP, 7 H, 2 ER, 1 K, 0 BB) (0-2) took the loss for Bentley.
Caitlin DeAngelis had an RBI-triple and scored on a single by Bailee Zaccaro to give Post a 2-0 lead in the third inning.
Shepherd tied the game in sixth on a two-run homer by sophomore outfielder
Isabella Forte (Hedgesville, W.Va./Hedgesville).
Post scored the game-winner via the international tie-breaker in the eighth.
The Rams return to action on Tuesday when they take on Pace at 10 a.m. and Saint Anselm at 12:15 p.m.
