Shepherd Softball Splits with IUP

INDIANA, Pa. – Shepherd University (3-3) split a doubleheader at Indiana (Pa.) (3-3) on Saturday. IUP gained a 4-3 win in game one, while Shepherd grabbed a 13-4 triumph in five innings in the nightcap. 

Jordan Sylvia drove in all four runs for IUP in game one. She had an RBI-single in the first, a two-run homer in the third, and an RBI-ground out in the fifth. 

Junior first baseman Cameron Davis (Ayden, N.C./South Central/UNC Pembroke) went 4-for-4 with a three-run homer to lead the Rams. Graduate student infielder Leann Brown (Hume, Va./Fauquier) added a 2-for-4 effort. 

Amanda Fischer gained the win for the Crimson Hawks (7.0 IP, 3 ER, 1 K, 2 BB) (1-1). Sophomore pitcher Hannah Ruffner (Charles Town, W.Va./Washington) (6.0 IP, 6 H, 4 ER, 4 K, 1 BB) (1-2) took the loss. 

Shepherd took a 3-0 lead in the second in the nightcap with a two-run homer by senior third baseman Nicole Purtell (Centreville, Va./Centreville) keying the rally. 

IUP got on the board in the second on an RBI-single by Sara Taiford. 

The Rams added five runs in the third with a three-run double by sophomore outfielder Isabella Forte (Hedgesville, W.Va./Hedgesville) highlighting the scoring outburst. 

IUP added a pair of runs in the third behind an RBI-single by Sylvia and a solo homer by Jenna Rhue to cut the lead to 8-3. 

The Rams got two-run doubles from junior catcher Alex Mantz (Edinburg, Va./Central) and freshman outfielder Lauren Alt (Petersburg, W.Va./Petersburg) in the fourth to grab a 12-3 lead.                    

Both teams plated a run in the fifth to complete the scoring. 

Mantz went 3-for-3 and Purtell went 2-for-4 to lead a 12-hit attack for the Rams.  

Alyssa Schmidt went 3-for-3 to lead the Crimson Hawks.                                

Sophomore pitcher Kourtney McNatt (Middletown, Del./Appoquinimink/WV Tech) (4.0 IP, 8 H, 8 R, 3 ER, 3 K 1 BB) (1-1) gained the win for the Rams. Bella Bucy (1.2 IP, 2 H, 3 R, 0 ER, 1 K, 0 BB) took the loss.  

The Rams return to action on Tuesday when they host West Liberty for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
