MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – Shepherd (12-14-1, 7-8-1 PSAC East) dropped a 5-4 decision to 20th-ranked Millersville (27-8, 11-2 PSAC East) in PSAC East baseball action at Millersville on Friday afternoon.
Millersville took a 1-0 lead in the first inning as Jimmy Losh reached on a triple and scored on a sacrifice fly by Bren Taylor.
Justin Taylor had an RBI-triple and later scored on a sacrifice bunt by Chase Simmons to up the Millersville lead to 3-0.
Luke Trainer and Simmons each drove in a run in the sixth to give the Marauders a 5-0 advantage.
Shepherd plated four runs in the eighth as junior third baseman Ryan Haddaway (Poolesville, Md./Poolesville), senior catcher Zach Doss (Waldorf, Md./North Point/Maryland), junior first baseman Ross Mulhall (Morgantown, W.Va./University/Gardner-Webb), and graduate student infielder Joey Schwartz (Smithsburg, Md./Smithsburg/Western Kentucky) each drove in a run for the Rams.
Haddaway went 3-for-4 to pace the Rams.
Taylor went 2-for-3 to lead Millersville.
Conor Cook (7.1 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 1 ER, 7 K, 3 BB) (3-2) gained the win for the Marauders. Sam Morris (1.2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 K, 1 BB) picked up the save. Sophomore pitcher Chris Chaney (Falling Waters, W.Va./Saint James School/Maryland) (5.2 IP, 5 H, 5 ER, 4 K, 4 BB) (2-4) took the loss for the Rams.
The two teams return to action on Saturday for a noon doubleheader at Fairfax Field.
