SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Shepherd (13-18-1, 7-11-1 PSAC East) dropped a 10-2 decision to Lock Haven (9-22, 2-13 PSAC East) in PSAC East baseball action at Fairfax Field on Friday afternoon.
Lock Haven took a 2-0 lead in the second inning on a two-run homer by Cameron Kutchey.
Shepherd answered back with a run in the bottom of the second on an RBI-double by freshman infielder Gino Serechia (Hammonton, N.J./Hammonton).
Lock Haven added three runs in the third to take a 5-1 lead with a two-run double by Zach Kaatz keying the rally.
The Bald Eagles added three runs in the fifth with Garrett Nepert and Kutchey each driving in a run.
Lock Haven tacked on a run in the sixth and another in the eighth.
Shepherd completed the scoring in the eighth as junior first baseman Ross Mulhall (Morgantown, W.Va./University/Gardner-Webb) walked and later scored on a double off the bat of graduate student outfielder Daniel Keer (Lehighton, Pa./Marian Catholic).
Joe Shannon went 4-for-5 with three runs scored to lead the Bald Eagles.
David Keller (8.0 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 11 K, 4 BB) (4-5) picked up the win for the Bald Eagles. Sophomore pitcher Chris Chaney (Falling Waters, W.Va./Saint James School/Maryland) (4.0 IP, 10 H, 8 R, 7 ER, 3 K, 3 BB) (2-7) took the loss.
The two teams return to action on Saturday for a noon doubleheader at Lock Haven.
