Shepherd Baseball Splits with Tiffin

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Shepherd (16-19-1) split with Tiffin (26-16) in non-conference doubleheader baseball action at Fairfax Field on Saturday. The Dragons gained a 3-0 win in game one, while the Rams took a 1-0 decision in the nightcap. 

Tiffin took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning in game one as Jake Shier singled, stole second, and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Tommy Thamann. 

The Dragons added a run in the fifth as Griffin Stevens singled and later scored on a single by Shier. 

Tiffin added an insurance run in the seventh as Marino Pugnetti drew a walk and later scored on a single by Tim Orr. 

Graduate student outfielder Daniel Keer (Lehighton, Pa./Marian Catholic) went 2-for-3 to lead the Rams. 

Michael Boswell (7.0 IP, 3 H 0 R, 7 K, 3 BB) (8-3) gained the win for the Dragons. Sophomore pitcher Chris Chaney (Falling Waters, W.Va./Saint James School/Maryland) (4.0 IP 4 H 1 ER, 3 K, 3 BB) (2-7) took the loss. 

Junior third baseman Ryan Haddaway (Poolesville, Md./Poolesville) led off the third inning with a single and later scored on a single by Keer for the game's only run to give the Rams the split. 

Junior first baseman Ross Mulhall (Morgantown, W.Va./University/Gardner-Webb) went 2-for-3 to lead the Rams. 

Graduate student pitcher Ryan Bywaters (Smithsburg, Md./Smithsburg/Radford) (7.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 12 K, 1 BB) (2-0) gained the complete game win. Tyler Wehrle (6.0 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 14 K, 3 BB) (5-1) took the loss. 

The two teams return to action on Sunday for a noon contest at Fairfax Field.
