Shepherd Baseball Handles Coker

NEWBERRY, S.C. – Shepherd (1-2) used an 18-hit attack en route to an 18-1 win over Coker (4-7) in baseball action at Newberry on Saturday. 

Shepherd took a 5-0 lead in the first inning. Senior infielder Cole Daugherty (Red Lion, Pa./Red Lion) smacked a three-run triple to key the rally. 

The Rams added four runs in the second with a two-run double by graduate student catcher Zach Doss (Waldorf, Md./North Point/Maryland) highlighting the scoring outburst. 

After Coker scored a run in the top of the third, Shepherd added six more runs in the bottom of the frame. Redshirt-sophomore infielder Wyatt Miles (Waterford, Va./Woodgrove/Frederick CC) had a two-run double to key the rally. 

Shepherd took a 17-1 lead in the fourth with a pair of runs behind a sacrifice fly off the bat of sophomore outfielder Sam Daggers (Galloway, N.J./Absegami/Rowan Gloucester CC) and an RBI-ground out by Doss. 

The Rams added a run in the sixth as junior outfielder Idris Carter (Uniondale, N.Y./Roosevelt/Stony Brook) led off with a double and later scored on a double by senior first baseman Ross Mulhall (Morgantown, W.Va./University/Gardner-Webb).  

Junior infielder Nicco German (Burke, Va./Falls Church) had four hits, while Daggers and Mulhall each had three to pace the Rams. 

Redshirt-sophomore pitcher Brenden Lewis (Hurricane, W.Va./Hurricane) (3.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 6 K, 0 BB) (1-0) picked up the win for the Rams. Aaron Diaz (0.2 IP, 4 H, 5 ER, 1 K, 2 BB) (0-1) took the loss for the Cobras. 

The Rams return to action on Sunday when they face Newberry for a 1 p.m. contest.
