Shepherd Baseball Edged by Shippensburg

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Shepherd University (17-10, 5-5 PSAC East) dropped an 8-7 decision to Shippensburg (17-13, 5-5 PSAC East) in PSAC East baseball action at Fairfax Field on Friday.  

Shippensburg took a 1-0 lead in the third inning as Tony Falvo led off with a double and later scored on a single by Justin Byler. 

The Raiders added a run in the fourth on a solo homer by Bryce Herb.  

The Rams answered back with a run in the bottom of the fourth as redshirt-sophomore outfielder Sam Daggers (Galloway, N.J./Absegami/Rowan Gloucester CC) singled, stole second, and scored on a double by redshirt-sophomore designated hitter Wyatt Miles (Waterford, Va./Woodgrove/Frederick CC).  

Shippensburg added three runs in the fifth to take a 5-1 advantage. Morgan Wyatt, Byler, and  Jaxon Dalena each drove in a run. 

Wyatt added a two-run single in the sixth for the Raiders to increase the lead to 7-1.  

Shepherd added a run in the sixth as Daggers doubled, stole third, and scored on a single by graduate student third baseman Connor Dewees (Red Lion, Pa./Red Lion). 

Shippensburg added a run in the seventh as Gio Calamia walked and later scored on a single by Byler. 

The Rams added five runs on five hits in the seventh with a three-run homer by senior infielder Cole Daugherty (Red Lion, Pa./Red Lion) highlighting the scoring. 

Daggers and Miles each had three hits to pace the Rams.

Byler and Herb each had three hits for the Raiders..

Noah Nabholz (6.0 IP, 7 H, 4 ER, 6 K, 1 BB) (4-3) earned the victory for Shippensburg. Dalena (0.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 K, 0 BB) picked up the save. Redshirt-sophomore pitcher Trevor Sharp (Bunker Hill, W.Va./Musselman) (5.0 IP, 4 H, 5 R, 3 ER, 4 K, 0 BB) (3-2) took the loss.  

The Rams return to action on Saturday when they travel to Shippensburg for a noon doubleheader.
