SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. -- Shepherd University (23-15, 6-12 PSAC East) dropped a pair of games to Shippensburg (18-11, 12-6 PSAC East) in PSAC East softball doubleheader action at Sara Cree Field on Tuesday. Shepherd dropped a 7-6 decision in eight innings in game one and fell in a 7-2 contest in the nightcap.
Shippensburg took a 3-0 lead in the third inning on an RBI-single by Katelyn Minney and a two-run single by Kaira Zamadics.
Shepherd tied the game in the bottom of the third behind an RBI-single from senior outfielder Hannah Beeler (Greencastle, Pa./Greencastle-Antrim) and a two-run single by sophomore first baseman Lauren Moore (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora/Trevecca Nazarene).
The Raiders added three runs in the fourth to take a 6-3 lead with a two-run single by Minney keying the rally.
Shepherd tied the game in the sixth as Moore led off with a single and moved to second on a single by junior outfielder Elizabeth Padiotis (Aldie, Va./John Champe). Moore scored when graduate student third baseman Nicole Purtell (Centreville, Va./Centreville) reached on a fielder's choice. Padiotis and Purtell later scored on a double off the bat of junior second baseman Caitlin Donnelly (Newark, Del./Padua Academy).
Shippensburg scored the game-winner in the eighth as Hannah Marstellar doubled and later scored on a single by Morgan Lindsay.
Taylor Myers went 4-for-5 for the Raiders.
Senior outfielder Kylie Condon (Charles Town, W.Va./Washington) and Moore each had a pair of hits for the Rams.
Maddie Uschock (2.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 K, 0 BB) (2-0) gained the win. Freshman pitcher Abby McBride (Northeast, Md./Rising Sun) (2.2 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 2 K, 0 BB) (5-5) took the loss for the Rams.
Shippensburg took a 6-0 lead in the second in the nightcap with a three-run blast by Marsteller highlighting the rally.
Shepherd plated a pair of runs in the third. Freshman catcher Camdyn Noland (Summit Point, W.Va./Washington) singled and moved to second when sophomore shortstop Lexi Clatterbuck (Front Royal, Va./Skyline) reached on an error. Noland scored when Purtell reached on a fielder's choice and Clatterbuck scored on a single by Condon.
Shippensburg added a run in the fourth to complete the scoring.
Ally Weaver went 2-for-4 for the Raiders.
Alicia Ball (4.1 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 0 ER, 5 K, 2 BB) (5-2) picked up the win. Graduate student pitcher Sarah Lamper (Marshall, Va./Fauquier) (1.2 IP, 3 H, 6 R, 0 ER, 3 K, 0 BB) (2-3) took the loss.
The Rams return to action on Friday when they travel to East Stroudsburg for a 2 p.m. doubleheader.
