LOCK HAVEN, Pa. -- Shepherd University (19-11, 4-8 PSAC East) dropped a pair of games to Lock Haven (16-12, 6-6 PSAC East) in PSAC East softball doubleheader action at Lock Haven on Monday. Lock Haven grabbed a 5-3 in game one and added a 9-1 win in five innings in the nightcap.
Lock Haven took a 1-0 lead in the first inning in game one on an RBI-single by Haley Lestician.
Shepherd took a 2-1 lead in the third. Freshman catcher Camdyn Noland (Summit Point, W.Va./Washington) reached on a hit-by-pitch and scored on a double off the bat of graduate student third baseman Nicole Purtell (Centreville, Va./Centreville). Purtell scored on a double by senior outfielder Hannah Beeler (Greencastle, Pa./Greencastle-Antrim).
Lock Haven took a 3-2 lead in the fourth with a pair of runs. Maci Brodzina had a sacrifice fly and Delaney Good added an RBI-single.
The Bald Eagles added two runs in the sixth on an RBI-double by Brodzina and an RBI-single by Good.
The Rams scored a run in the seventh as Purtell hit a single and scored when senior outfielder Kylie Condon (Charles Town, W.Va./Washington) grounded out.
Sophomore shortstop Lexi Clatterbuck (Front Royal, Va./Skyline), Purtell, and Beeler each had a pair of hits for the Rams.
Good went 3-for-4 for the Bald Eagles.
Keiva Middleton (7.0 IP, 9 H, 3 ER, 3 K, 3 BB) (2-0) gained the win. Senior pitcher Katie Laing (Jefferson, Md./Brunswick) (5.0 IP, 6 H, 3 ER, 1 K, 2 BB) (7-5) took the loss.
Shepherd took a 1-0 lead in the first inning in the nightcap as Condon doubled, stole third, and scored on a single by Clatterbuck.
Brodzina, Sydney Arrigale, and Morgan Karasek each drove in a run in the second to give the Bald Eagles a 3-1 lead.
Lock Haven scored six runs in the fourth with a three-run homer by Summer Peters, a solo homer by Bella Schmitt, and a two-run single by Arrigale keying the rally.
Condon went 2-for-3 to pace the Rams.
Kerri McCallum, Schmitt, and Brodzina each had a pair of hits for Lock Haven.
Madison Waltman (5.0 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 1 K, 2 BB) (7-6) gained the win. Graduate student pitcher Sarah Lamper (Marshall, Va./Fauquier) (3.0 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 6 ER, 0 K, 2 BB) (2-2) took the loss.
The Rams return to action on Wednesday when they host Frostburg State for a 2 p.m. doubleheader.
