Shepherd Women’s Lacrosse Edged by Georgian Court in Season Opener

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Isabel Raimondi scored five goals and added two assists to lead Georgian Court (1-0) to a 14-12 win over Shepherd University (0-1) in women's lacrosse action at Ram Stadium on Sunday in the season opener for both schools.

Senior midfielder Paige Stoner (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) led the Rams with three goals and an assist.  Junior midfielder Katie Paredes (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) added two goals, a pair of assists, and a team-high six draw controls.

Junior attacker Kelsey King (Fallston, Md./Concordia Prep) added two goals and an assist, while senior attacker Shanna Dextradeur (Middletown, Md./Middletown) and sophomore attacker Rebekah Forney (Walkersville, Md./Mount De Sales) each tallied a pair of goals. Senior midfielder Kaiya Edwards (Brogue, Pa./Red Lion) also netted a goal.

Junior defender Sydney Witmer (Damascus, Md./Damascus) had a match-high six ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers.   

Riley O'Connor added four goals and three assists for the Lions.

Sophomore goalkeeper Destiny Rockwell (Glengary, W.Va./Musselman) recorded six saves for the Rams. Natalie Moradian posted seven saves for the Lions.

Shepherd scored the first four goals of the game and held a 5-3 lead after one quarter. Georgian Court outscored the Rams, 6-1 in the second quarter to take a 9-6 lead into the break.

Trailing by four goals 13-9 when O'Connor scored with 10:46 left in regulation, Shepherd went on a 3-0 run to cut the lead to 13-12 when Paredes scored a free-position goal with 6:03 remaining. King scored back-to-back tallies to fuel the run.

O'Connor added a goal with 3:07 left to cap the win for Georgian Court.

Each team had 26 shots with Georgian Court holding a 20-19 edge in shots on goal. Both teams were 14-of-17 in clears. The Lions had a 17-14 advantage in ground balls and a 15-14 edge in draw controls.

The Rams return to action on Sunday, Feb. 25 when they host Barton at noon.
