SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Shepherd University (18-20, 8-12 PSAC East) dropped a doubleheader to #15 East Stroudsburg (34-8, 16-4 PSAC East) in PSAC East softball action at Sara Cree Field on Friday. East Stroudsburg rallied for a 6-5 win in game one and added an 8-0 win in five innings in the nightcap.
Shepherd took a 4-0 in the first inning in game one as junior third baseman Lauren Moore (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora/Trevecca Nazarene) and junior shortstop Lexi Clatterbuck (Front Royal, Va./Skyline) each drove in a run, and sophomore outfielder Camdyn Noland (Summit Point, W.Va./Washington) added a two-run single.
The Rams added a run in the third as senior outfielder Olivia Reese (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) singled and later scored on a single by Clatterbuck.
East Stroudsburg scored three in the fifth on a two-run homer by Katie Master and a solo blast by Abagail Weirich..
East Stroudsburg plated a pair of runs in the seventh on a two-run single by Delaney Ridgell to rally for the win.
Reese and Clatterbuck each had a pair of hits for the Rams.
Paige Zigmunt (3.1 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 4 K, 5 BB) (15-4) earned the win. Sarah Davenport (1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 K, 0 BB) picked up the save (5). Freshman pitcher Madelayne Ruffner (Charles Town, W.Va./Washington) (7.0 IP, 9 H, 6 R, 4 ER, 10 K, 2 BB) (13-3) took the loss.
The Warriors used a 12-hit attack en route to an 11-0 win in the nightcap.
Reilly Vicendese went 3-for-4, drove in three runs, and scored a pair to pace East Stroudsburg.
Master added a two-run homer for the Warriors.
Davenport (5.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 10 K, 0 BB) (18-3) gained the win. Senior pitcher Hannah Ruffner (Charles Town, W.Va./Washington) (1.2 IP, 5 H, 0 ER, 1 K, 2 BB) (2-6) took the loss.
The Rams return to action on Saturday when they host Bloomsburg for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
