SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Junior attacker Kelsey King (Fallston, Md./Concordia Prep), junior midfielder Katie Paredes (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora), and sophomore attacker Holly Poe (Sykesville, Md./Century) each scored three goals to lead Shepherd University (5-6, 3-4 PSAC East) to a 13-9 win over #23 Bloomsburg (8-3, 4-3 PSAC East) on Senior Day in PSAC East women's lacrosse action at Ram Stadium on Saturday.
King also had an assist, while senior midfielder Paige Stoner (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) added two goals and an assist. Senior attacker Sam Lassahn (Baltimore, Md./Concordia Prep) and senior attacker Shanna Dextradeur (Middletown, Md./Middletown) each added a goal.
Sophomore attacker Rebekah Forney (Walkersville, Md./Mount De Sales) and freshman midfielder/defender Sierra Rose (Taneytown, Md./Francis Scott Key) each contributed an assist.
Junior defender Sydney Witmer (Damascus, Md./Damascus) led the defensive effort with five caused turnovers and four ground balls. She also added three draw controls.
Madison Coyle and Amanda Stoll each recorded three goals for the Huskies
Shepherd had a 7-5 lead at halftime.
The Rams outscored the Huskies, 3-1, in the third quarter behind goals from Stoner, King, and Poe to take a 10-6 lead into the final quarter.
Coyle opened the fourth quarter scoring to cut the lead to 10-7. Shepherd got an unassisted goal from Poe at the 9:08 mark to up the lead to 12-7. The Huskies followed with a pair of women-up goals before Sam Lassahn scored a no-look goal on a feed from Stoner with 4:10 left to cap the win.
Sophomore goalkeeper Destiny Rockwell (Glengary, W.Va./Musselman) recorded nine saves for the Rams. Lauren Foley (52:49, 12 GA, 5 saves) and Emily Graham (7:11, 1 GA, 1 save) combined to post 13 saves for the Huskies
Shepherd had a 28-24 advantage in shots with a 19-17 edge in shots on goal. Shepherd was 14-of-17 in clears, while Bloomsburg was 15-of-17. Bloomsburg had a 25-22 edge in ground balls. Shepherd forced 22 turnovers and committed 22. The Huskies held a 15-11 edge in draw controls.
The Rams return to action on Wednesday when they travel to #15 Kutztown for a 3 p.m. contest.
