MANSFIELD, Pa. – Shepherd University (22-24, 12-16 PSAC East) split a doubleheader with Mansfield (12-26, 3-25 PSAC East) in PSAC East softball action at Mansfield on Sunday. Shepherd posted a 12-0 win in game one and dropped a 2-0 decision in the nightcap.
Shepherd took a 1-0 lead in the second inning in game one as junior shortstop
Lexi Clatterbuck (Front Royal, Va./Skyline) doubled and later scored on a single by senior outfielder
Isabella Forte (Hedgesville, W.Va./Hedgesville).
The Rams added two more runs in the third on a two-run single by sophomore catcher
Camdyn Noland (Summit Point, W.Va./Washington).
Shepherd took a 4-0 lead in the sixth on a solo homer by graduate student catcher
Alex Mantz (Edinburg, Va./Central).
The Rams plated eight runs on nine hits in the seventh. Junior outfielder
Lauren Alt (Upper Tract, W.Va./Petersburg) smacked a two-run double, and junior third baseman
Lauren Moore (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora/Trevecca Nazarene) added a two-run single to key the scoring outburst.
Mantz went 3-for-4 to lead the Rams.
Freshman pitcher
Madelayne Ruffner (Charles Town, W.Va./Washington) (6.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 11 K, 0 BB) (15-5) earned the win. Danielle Goff (6.0 IP, 8 H, 7 R, 5 ER, 5 K, 1 BB) (6-13) took the loss.
Mansfield took a 1-0 lead in the third in the nightcap as Kayla Vonstein was hit-by-pitch and later scored on a single by Fallon Kelley.
The Mountaineers added a run in the sixth on an RBI-single by Aubrey Reinert.
Moore went 2-for-3 to lead the Rams.
Kelley and Reinert went 2-for-3 for the Mountaineers.
Annabella Putman (7.0 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 10 K, 2 BB) (6-13) gained the win. Senior pitcher
Hannah Ruffner (Charles Town, W.Va./Washington) (5.1 IP, 6 H, 2 ER, 3 K, 2 BB) (2-7) took the loss.
The Rams return to action on Friday when they host Millersville for a 2 p.m. doubleheader.
