WILMINGTON, Del. – Shepherd University (6-0) won a pair of matches in first day action of the Wilmington Tournament at Wilmington on Friday. The Rams handed Holy Family a 3-0 (25-12, 25-17, 25-15) setback in an early match and added a 3-0 (25-13, 25-19, 25-20) triumph against Southern New Hampshire in a later match.
Sophomore middle hitter
Rylee Lenz (Earleville, Md./Bohemia Manor) recorded 11 kills and sophomore middle hitter/right side
Sophia Ryan (Monroe, NY./Monroe Woodbury) added 10 to lead the Rams against Holy Family (2-2). Ryan also had four block assists.
Junior setter
Macy Buso (Parker, Colorado/Chaparral) (13) recorded 33 assists, while junior libero
Madigan Faircloth (Inwood, W.Va./Musselman/Liberty University) topped the Rams with 15 digs. Faircloth added a match-high four aces.
Gianna DiPLato had eight kills to lead Holy Family. Morgan Steck added 20 assists and six digs.
Sophomore outside hitter
Amya Davis (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Hendrick Hudson) recorded 10 kills and Lenz added eight in the win over Southern New Hampshire (0-5). Lenz also led the team with four block assists.
Buso added 26 assists, three aces, and 12 digs, while senior outside hitter
Sydney Babb (Germantown, Md./Northwest/Montgomery College) also recorded a dozen digs.
Elsa Gilmore had 10 kills to lead Southern New Hampshire. Saddie Garn contributed 20 assists and 20 digs.
The Rams return to action on Saturday for final day action of the Wilmington Tournament. They face Jefferson at 2 p.m. and host Wilmington at 7 pm.
