SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Sophomore midfielder
Donik Elshani (Crofton, Md./Crofton) scored a pair of goals to lead Shepherd University (2-0-2) to a 2-1 win over Wheeling University (0-1-2) in non-conference men's soccer action at Shepherd on Saturday. The victory was the first for the Rams over Wheeling since 2012.
Elshani opened the scoring when he scored on a pass from graduate student midfielder
Ryan Fisher (Hurricane, W.Va./Hurricane/Marshall) at the 24:51 mark.
Alex Yesufu scored on a pass from Josh Timbrell for the Cardinals at the 44:41 mark to tie the game.
Elshani tallied the game-winner at the 48:27 mark on a feed from senior forward
Andrew West (Annandale, Va./Carlisle (Pa.)).
Freshman goalkeeper
Aidan Houck (Ellicott City, Md./Marriotts Ridge) recorded one save for the Rams. Carlos Molina recorded four saves for the Cardinals.
The Rams had an 18-7 advantage in shots with a 6-2 edge in shots on goal. Corner kicks were even at four apiece.
The Rams return to action on Saturday when they travel to face East Stroudsburg at 1 p.m. in the conference opener.
