INDIANA, Pa. – Shepherd University dropped a pair of matches in first day action of the IUP Tournament on Friday. The Rams (8-2) dropped a 3-2 (25-17, 27-25, 17-25, 13-25, 13-15) decision in an early match against Daemen (5-3) before dropping a 3-1 (25-17, 19-25, 25-19, 25-13) outcome to Pitt-Johnstown (10-0) in a later match.
Senior right side
Joi Fairweather (Tamarac, Fla./Calvary Christian Academy) recorded 11 kills and five block assists to pace the Rams against Daemen. Sophomore middle hitter
Rylee Lenz (Earleville, Md./Bohemia Manor) added seven kills and match-high eight blocks (1 solo).
Junior libero
Madigan Faircloth (Inwood, W.Va./Musselman/Liberty University) contributed 17 digs and four aces. Junior setter
Macy Buso (Parker, Colorado/Chaparral) (13) contributed 32 assists and nine digs. Senior libero/defensive specialist
Kierra Anderson (Martinsburg, W.Va./Martinsburg) also added nine digs.
Amelia Armstrong and Giselle Giraud led Daemen with 16 kills each. Nahirka Malpica added 14 kills and 18 digs.
Statistics from the match with Pitt-Johnstown were not available.
The Rams return to action on Saturday when they face host IUP at 1 p.m. and Chestnut Hill at 5 p.m.
