Shepherd Women’s Lacrosse Rallies Past Shippensburg

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Senior attacker Katie Paredes (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) scored four goals to lead Shepherd University (1-0, 1-0 PSAC East) to a 9-8 win over Shippensburg (0-1, 0-1 PSAC East) in PSAC East women's lacrosse action at Shippensburg on Wednesday. Paredes scored an unassisted goal with 6:59 left in the fourth quarter to lift the Rams to the victory.

Senior attacker Kelsey King (Fallston, Md./Concordia Prep) and junior attacker Holly Poe (Sykesville, Md./Century) each added a pair of goals for the Rams. Sophomore midfielder Aubrey Harrison (Fairmont, W.Va./Fairmont Senior) added a goal and two assists, while junior attacker Madison Peacher (Quakertown, Pa./Quakertown) and freshman attacker Grace Meyer (Ijamsville, Md./Oakdale) each added an assist. 
      
Junior defender Paige Sullivan (Havre de Grace, Md./Havre De Grace) (6 ground balls, 2 caused turnovers) and senior defender Sydney Witmer (Damascus, Md./Damascus) (4 ground balls, 1 caused turnover) anchored the defensive effort for the Rams.   

Brynn Hauck had four goals and one assist to pace the Raiders. Maddie Phommachanh added a pair of goals.

Shippensburg had a 6-3 lead at halftime.

Shepherd scored five unanswered goals to open the third quarter to take an 8-6 advantage as Paredes scored a pair and King, Poe, and Harrison each added one.

Phommachanh scored back-to-back goals for Shippensburg to tie the game and set the stage for the game-winner by Paredes.

Junior goalkeeper Destiny Rockwell (Glengary, W.Va./Musselman) recorded 11 saves for the Rams. Kayla Vosburg posted eight saves for the Raiders.

Shippensburg had a 25-21 advantage in shots with a 19-17 edge in shots on goal. Shepherd was 16-of-19 in clears and Shippensburg was 14-of-17. The Raiders had a 25-23 advantage in ground balls and a 16-4 edge in draw controls.

The Rams return to action on Saturday when they host Wheeling for a 1 p.m. contest.

Notes: Shepherd improves to 8-8 in season openers … Holly Poe's two goals on the day allowed her to reach the 50-goal mark for her career … four of the last seven contests in the series have been decided by one goal.
