Shepherd Women’s Lacrosse Handles Wheeling

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Junior attacker Holly Poe (Sykesville, Md./Century) scored four goals and added two assists to lead Shepherd University (2-0) to a 16-8 win over Wheeling (2-1) in women's lacrosse action at Ram Stadium on Saturday.

Senior attacker Katie Paredes (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) added two goals and three assists, while senior attacker Kelsey King (Fallston, Md./Concordia Prep) tallied a pair of goals and two assists. Freshman midfielder Katherine Stevenson (Middletown, Md./Middletown) netted a pair of goals. Stevenson added a game-high six draw controls.

Sophomore midfielder Aubrey Harrison (Fairmont, W.Va./Fairmont Senior), junior attacker Madison Peacher (Quakertown, Pa./Quakertown), and freshman midfielder Britney Warner (Hughesville, Md./La Plata) added a goal and an assist, while freshman midfielder Grace Lyon (Port Tobacco, Md./McDonough), freshman midfielder Jordan White (Warrenton, Va./Kettle Run) and freshman attacker Grace Meyer (Ijamsville, Md./Oakdale) each netted a goal.    
                                                                  
Senior defender Sydney Witmer (Damascus, Md./Damascus) led the defense with eight ground balls, four caused turnovers, and three draw controls. Junior defender Paige Sullivan (Havre de Grace, Md./Havre De Grace)  and junior defender Sarah Fischer (Finksburg, Md./Westminster) each had three caused turnovers and three ground balls.

Trinity Rose had three goals and an assist to lead the Cardinals. Paige Jankowski added two goals and two assists.

Shepherd had a 6-4 lead at halftime.

Junior goalkeeper Destiny Rockwell (Glengary, W.Va./Musselman) recorded eight saves for the Rams. Maisy Latus posted 18 saves for the Cardinals.

Shepherd had a 44-23 advantage in shots with a 34-16 edge in shots on goal. Shepherd was 14-of-17 in clears and Wheeling was 16-of-20. The Rams had a 36-22 advantage in ground balls and a 17-10 edge in draw controls.

The Rams return to action on Wednesday when they host Kutztown for a 2 p.m. contest.

Notes: Poe's four goals tied a career-high effort while her six points established a career-best performance … Witmer's eight ground balls and three draw controls are career-high efforts … Shepherd improved to 8-6 in the all-time series with Wheeling … the teams met for the first time since the 2019 season.
