NUTTER FORT, W.Va. – Redshirt-sophomore pitcher
Daniel Quintana (Haymarket, Va./Paul VI/James Madison) scattered three hits in a 3-0 win in the nightcap to give Shepherd University (1-7) a split in baseball doubleheader action with Salem (1-4) at Frank Loria Field on Sunday. Salem gained a 2-1 win in game one. The nightcap win gave Shepherd head coach Andrew Kowalo his first career victory.
Shepherd took a 2-0 lead in the first inning in the nightcap. Junior outfielder
Bodie Pullen (Winchester, Va./James Wood) singled and scored on a triple off the bat of junior outfielder
Nik Rubendall (East Norriton, Pa./Pope John Paul II). Rubendall later scored on a sacrifice fly by redshirt freshman outfielder
Colin Ahart (Pennsauken, N.J./St. Joseph Academy).
The Rams added a run in the sixth as Rubendall led off with a double and scored on a sacrifice fly by senior third baseman
Aidan Greaney (New Windsor, Md./South Carroll/Frederick Community College).
Rubendall went 3-for-3 and Pullen went 2-for-3 to lead a seven-hit attack for the Rams.
Quintana (7.0 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 2 K, 1 BB) evened his record at 1-1. Andrew Leginze (6.0 IP, 7 H, 3 ER, 5 K, 0 BB) (0-2) took the loss for Salem.
Shepherd took a 1-0 in the fourth inning in game one as Rubendall doubled and later scored on an error.
Salem rallied with a pair of runs in the sixth to get the win. Aiden McMurdo singled and Jose Lojo reached on a hit-by-pitch. McMurdo later scored on a balk and Lojo scored on a single by Reese Rinna.
Pullen and Greaney added singles for the Rams.
Sam Schmitt (7.0 IP, 3 H, 1 UER 12 K, 0 BB) (1-1) picked up the win for the Tigers. Redshirt senior pitcher
Trevor Sharp (Bunker Hill, W.Va./Musselman) (5.0 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 2 K, 2 BB) (0-2) took the loss.
The two teams return to action on Monday for a noon doubleheader.
