CLERMONT, Fla. – Shepherd University (3-3) split a pair of games in softball action at The Spring Games on Tuesday. The Rams held on for a 10-8 win over Glenville State (9-7) in the early game and dropped a 9-1 decision to Indianapolis (12-8) in the later game.
Junior catcher
Camdyn Noland (Summit Point, W.Va./Washington) went 4-for-4, drove in two runs, and scored two more to lead the Rams in the win over Glenville State.
Noland had a two-run single in the first inning for the Rams.
After the Pioneers tied the game at 3-all, Shepherd rallied with three runs in the third with a two-run single by sophomore catcher
Madelyn Chambers (Stafford, Va./Brooke Point) keying the rally.
Chambers had an RBI-triple and later scored to key a four-run rally in the fifth to up the Shepherd lead to 10-3.
Glenville plated five runs in the sixth to complete the scoring. Monica Rodel hit a three-run triple to key the rally.
Chambers added a 3-for-3 effort and drove in three runs.
Sophomore pitcher
Madelayne Ruffner (Charles Town, W.Va./Washington) (7.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 12 K, 2 BB) (3-0) to pick up the win for the Rams. Kylie Burdick (4.0 IP, 9 H, 6 R, 3 ER, 4 K, 0 BB) (2-4) took the loss.
Indianapolis scored five runs on five hits in the first inning to take control of the game in the second contest.
Shepherd got a solo homer from senior third baseman
Lauren Moore (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora/Trevecca Nazarene) in the fifth to cut the lead to 5-1.
The Greyhounds took advantage of three hits and two errors to add four runs in the bottom of the fifth to end the game on the eight-run rule.
Moore went 3-for-3 to pace the Rams. Sophomore first baseman
Brenna Collis (Hedgesville, W.Va./Hedgesville) added a 2-for-3 effort.
Cheyenne Eads (5.0 IP, 7 H, 1 ER, 4 K, 1 BB) (5-5) got the win. Junior pitcher
Abby McBride (North East, Md./Rising Sun) (4.1 IP, 10 H, 9 R, 5 ER, 2 K, 4 BB) (1-1) took the loss.
The Rams return to action on Wednesday when they face Southwest Missouri State at 9 a.m. and Wayne State at 11:15 p.m. at The Spring Games.
