SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Shepherd University (5-9, 1-1 PSAC East) split a pair of games in PSAC East softball doubleheader action at Shippensburg (11-5, 1-1 PSAC East) on Tuesday. The Rams recorded a 2-1 triumph in game one, while the Raiders posted a win in the nightcap.
Shepherd took a 1-0 lead in the first inning in game one as sophomore outfielder
Madelyn Chambers (Stafford, Va./Brooke Point) was hit-by-pitch and stole second. She later scored on a single off the bat of sophomore designated player
Trynda Mantz (Edinburg, Va./Central).
The Rams added a run in the second when sophomore first baseman
Brenna Collis (Hedgesville, W.Va./Hedgesville) singled and moved to second on a single by freshman outfielder
Haylee Hartman (Keedysville, Md./Boonsboro). Collis later scored on a single by Chambers.
Shippensburg rallied with a run in the seventh on a solo blast from Rilee Ehrlacher.
Sophomore pitcher
Madelayne Ruffner (Charles Town, W.Va./Washington) (7.0 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 11 K, 3 BB) (5-0) picked up the win for the Rams. Alicia Ball (7.0 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 11 K, 1 BB) (3-3) took the loss.
Shepherd took a 3-0 lead in the first inning in the nightcap on a three-run homer by sophomore first baseman
Brenna Collis (Hedgesville, W.Va./Hedgesville).
The Raiders answered back with eight runs in the bottom of the first as they took advantage of six hits and three errors. Reagan Bauman had an RBI-triple and later scored on a passed ball to key the rally.
The Rams added a run in the second when freshman outfielder
Meaghan Ruffner (Charles Town, W.Va./Washington) singled, moved to third on a double by freshman catcher
Morgan Cave (Kearneysville, W.Va./Washington), and scored on a sacrifice fly by
Madelayne Ruffner.
Shepherd plated a pair of runs in the third on a solo blast from senior third baseman
Lauren Moore (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora/Trevecca Nazarene) and an RBI-single by freshman pitcher
Sam Colaw (Petersburg, W.Va./Petersburg).
Moore and Collis each had a pair of hits to lead the Rams.
Emily Lafferty, Aryanna Briddell, and Lindsey Haser each had two hits for the Raiders.
Dani Hayward (5.0 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 1 K, 1 BB) (3-1) gained the win. Junior pitcher
Abby McBride (North East, Md./Rising Sun) (0.0 IP, 2 H, 4 ER, 0 K, 1 BB) (0-4) took the loss.
The Rams return to action on Friday when they travel to Bloomsburg for a 2 p.m. doubleheader.
