Shepherd Women’s Lacrosse Holds Off Gannon

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Senior attacker Kelsey King (Fallston, Md./Concordia Prep) had six goals and one assist and senior attacker Katie Paredes (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) added four goals and three assists to lead Shepherd University (3-1) to an 18-14 win over Gannon (0-2) in women's lacrosse action at Ram Stadium on Sunday.

Junior attacker Holly Poe (Sykesville, Md./Century) added three goals and an assist, while sophomore midfielder Aubrey Harrison (Fairmont, W.Va./Fairmont Senior) and junior attacker Madison Peacher (Quakertown, Pa./Quakertown) each added a pair of goals and an assist.

Freshman midfielder Grace Lyon (Port Tobacco, Md./McDonough) scored a goal, while freshman midfielder Katherine Stevenson (Middletown, Md./Middletown) posted a pair of assists. Lyon added a game-high seven draw controls. Freshman attacker Grace Meyer (Ijamsville, Md./Oakdale) contributed an assist.

The Shepherd defense was led by sophomore defender Luetta Seipp (Hampstead, Md./Manchester Valley) (6 GB, 2 CT), junior defender Sarah Fischer (Finksburg, Md./Westminster) (3 GB, 1 CT), senior defender Campbell Vitek (Mt. Airy, Md./South Carroll) (3 GB, 2 CT), and senior defender Sydney Witmer (Damascus, Md./Damascus) (2 GB, 4 CT).  
  
Caroline Stevens fled the Golden Knights with five goals. Charlie Hunter added four goals.

Shepherd had a 10-4 advantage at the half.

Gannon rallied in the second half and trailed by just three goals at 16-13 after Hunter scored with 8:20 left in the fourth quarter. King scored back-to-back goals for the Rams to stretch the lead. The Golden Knights closed out the scoring on a goal by Stevens with 2:44 left.

Junior goalkeeper Destiny Rockwell (Glengary, W.Va./Musselman) recorded eight saves for the Rams. Allison Lerch posted nine saves for the Golden Knights.

Shepherd had a 32-25 advantage in shots with a 27-22 edge in shots on goal. Shepherd was 12-of-15 in clears and Gannon was 10-of-14. The Rams had a 24-15 advantage in ground balls, while Gannon had a 19-17 edge in draw controls.

The Rams return to action on Wednesday when they host Indiana (Pa.) for a 3 p.m. contest.

Notes: Katie Paredes (103) had seven points on the day to surpass the 100-point mark for her career ... Sydney Witmer (101) recorded a pair of ground balls to eclipse the 100-ground balls mark ... five Rams scored multiple goals on the day ... Shepherd improved to 2-0 in the all-time series with Gannon.
