Shepherd Softball Sweeps Lock Haven

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Shepherd University (10-10, 6-2 PSAC East) swept Lock Haven (9-11, 3-7 PSAC East) in PSAC East softball doubleheader action at Sara Cree Field on Friday. The Rams posted a 6-0 win in game one and added a 9-7 victory in the nightcap.
 
The Rams grabbed a 4-0 lead in the third inning in game one with a three-run homer by junior designated player Camdyn Noland (Summit Point, W.Va./Washington) and an RBI-single from sophomore first baseman Brenna Collis (Hedgesville, W.Va./Hedgesville) highlighting the rally.
 
Shepherd added a pair of runs in the fifth. Freshman outfielder Haylee Hartman (Keedysville, Md./Boonsboro) hit an RBI-triple and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Collis.
 
Sophomore catcher Madelyn Chambers (Stafford, Va./Brooke Point) went 2-for-4, and senior third baseman Lauren Moore (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora/Trevecca Nazarene) and Hartman each went 2-for-2 to lead a nine-hit attack for the Rams.
 
Sophomore pitcher Madelayne Ruffner (Charles Town, W.Va./Washington) (6.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 15 K, 1 BB) (8-0) earned the win. Abby Robertson (3.0 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 2 K, 2 BB) (1-5) took the loss.
 
Lock Haven took a 2-0 lead in the first inning in the nightcap as Maria Fratangelo had an RBI-single and Madison Melius drove in another run on a ground out.
 
Shepherd plated three runs in the bottom of the frame behind an RBI-groundout by Hartman and a two-run double by Noland.
 
The Rams added a run in the second as freshman infielder Jordan Gugliuzza (Frederick, Md./Thomas Johnson) walked, stole second, and later scored on a passed ball.
 
Melius had an RBI-double in the third for the Bald Eagles to cut the lead to 4-3.

The Bald Eagles got RBI-singles from Blaire Balestrini and Maci Brodzina in the fourth to take a 5-4 advantage.
 
Shepherd answered back in the bottom of the fourth with a pair of runs on an RBI-double by Moore and an RBI-triple by Noland to take a 6-5 lead.
 
Shepherd plated three runs in the fifth as Chambers and Moore each had RBI-singles and sophomore pitcher Trynda Mantz (Edinburg, Va./Central) drove in a run on a ground out.
 
Lock Haven scored a pair of runs in the seventh on a two-run triple by Fratangelo to complete the scoring.
 
Chambers and Moore each went 3-for-4 to lead the Rams. Hartman and Noland added two hits apiece.
 
Brodzina went 3-for-4 to pace the Bald Eagles.
               
Mantz (3.1 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 7 K, 1 BB) (1-1) gained the win in relief. Talia Ross (4.0 IP, 10 H, 6 R, 5 ER, 1 K, 1 BB) (4-5) took the loss.
 
The Rams return to action on Saturday when they host Mansfield for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
