EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – Shepherd University (19-20, 7-11 PSAC East) split with #13 East Stroudsburg (29-8-1, 14-4-1 PSAC East) in PSAC East doubleheader baseball action at East Stroudsburg on Friday. Shepherd gained an 11-2 win in game one and dropped a 14-2 decision in the nightcap.
Senior first baseman Aidan Greaney (New Windsor, Md./South Carroll/Frederick Community College) gave the Rams a 2-0 lead in the first inning with a two-run blast.
Shepherd took a 7-0 lead in the second with a five-run inning led by a three-run homer off the bat of junior outfielder Bodie Pullen (Winchester, Va./James Wood).
Redshirt senior infielder Wyatt Miles (Waterford, Va./Woodgrove /Frederick CC) gave the Rams a 9-0 lead in the third with a two-run homer.
Shepherd took an 11-0 lead in the fifth on a two-run blast off the bat of redshirt sophomore outfielder Ethan Jones (Oakton, Va./Oakton).
East Stroudsburg plated a pair of runs in the sixth on an RBI-double off the bat of Jack Rothenhausler and an RBI-single from Parker Frey.
Jones led the Rams at the plate going 2-for-3 with a homer.
Sophomore pitcher Michael Burnley (Sicklerville, N.J./St. Augustine Prep) (4.0 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 0 R, 5 K, 3 BB) gained the win (2-4). Sophomore pitcher Aden Ritenour (Woodbridge, Va./Gainesville) (3.0 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 2 R, 2 K, 1 BB) (1) earned the save. Ryan Dewees (1.2 IP, 8 H, 7 ER, 1 K, 1 BB) took the loss (6-1).
Shepherd took a 1-0 in the first inning of the nightcap when Miles led off with a single and later scored on a wild pitch.
East Stroudsburg took a 3-1 lead in the first with Frey and Easton Albert hitting RBI-singles to key the scoring.
Albert gave the Warriors a 4-1 lead in the third with an RBI-single.
East Stroudsburg took a 7-1 lead in the fourth on a three-run blast off the bat of Chaise Albus.
The Warriors added three runs in the fifth on a two-run double from Albert and a run-scoring single from Dennis Pierce.
Greaney hit a solo blast for the Rams to get the score to 10-2 in the sixth.
East Stroudsburg plated four runs in the sixth with a two-run homer from Jackson Rutecki keying the rally.
Jake Albert (4.2 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 8 K, 0 BB) (3-1) earned the win. Freshman pitcher Riley Morgan (Ranson, W.Va./Jefferson) (3.0 IP, 7 H, 4 ER, 3 K, 1 BB) (2-1) took the loss.
The Rams return to action on Saturday when they host East Stroudsburg for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
