Shepherd Baseball Splits with #13 East Stroudsburg

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Shepherd University (20-21, 8-12 PSAC East) split with #13 East Stroudsburg (30-9-1, 15-5-1 PSAC East) in PSAC East doubleheader baseball action at Fairfax Field on Saturday. Shepherd dropped a 16-6 decision in game one and rebounded with a 6-5 triumph in the nightcap.
 
East Stroudsburg took a 3-0 lead in the second inning in game one with a two-run double by Shanley Wall keying the rally.

Shepherd scored a run in the second on a solo blast from senior first baseman Aidan Greaney (New Windsor, Md./South Carroll/Frederick Community College).

The Warriors added three runs to take a 6-1 lead in the third keyed by a two-run blast off the bat of Easton Albert.

East Stroudsburg took a 7-1 lead in the fourth when Albert singled and later scored on a double from Connor Reilly.

The Rams added another run in the fourth when junior shortstop Ethan Burgreen (Winchester,/Va./Millbrook) tripled and scored on a single from senior left fielder Trey Sine (Martinsburg, W.Va./Martinsburg).

Shepherd cut the lead to 7-4 with solo blasts from junior outfielder Bodie Pullen (Winchester, Va./James Wood) and redshirt senior infielder Wyatt Miles (Waterford, Va./Woodgrove /Frederick CC) in the fifth. 

East Stroudsburg upped the score to 14-4 in the sixth. Walker Zampella and Albert each hit solo homers and Parker Frey added a grand slam to highlight the scoring. 

The Warriors added a pair of runs in the seventh on a two-run blast from Dennis Pierce.

The Rams scored a pair of runs in the seventh as redshirt sophomore outfielder Ethan Jones (Oakton, Va./Oakton) hit a solo homer and Greaney walked and later scored when Sine was hit-by-pitch with the bases loaded.

Greaney led the Rams at the plate going 2-for-3 with a homer. 

Peyton Brannock (4.0 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 2 R, 8 K, 2 BB) (5-1) earned the win. Junior pitcher Allen Miller (Mechanicsville, Md./Chopticon) (2.0 IP, 4 H, 5 ER, 5 R, 1 K, 4 BB) (4-2) took the loss. 

East Stroudsburg took a 1-0 lead in the first inning of the nightcap when Wall singled and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Jack Rothenhausler.

The Warriors took a 2-0 lead in the second when Zampella singled and later scored on a double by Albert. 

Shepherd took a 4-2 lead in the second with a two-run triple by Pullen keying the scoring.

East Stroudsburg plated a run in the third when Chaise Albus singled and later scored on a single by Frey.

The Rams took a 5-3 lead in the third as Greaney doubled and scored when Burgreen grounded out. 

Shepherd added a run in the sixth when Lamb reached on a walk and later scored when Miles walked with the bases loaded. 

Albus had a two-run single for the Warriors in the seventh, but the Rams held on for the win.

Pullen went 2-for-4 to lead the Rams.

Redshirt sophomore Pitcher Daniel Quintana (Haymarket, Va./ Paul VI / James Madison) (6.0 IP, 11 H, 4 ER, 5 R, 5 K, 1 BB) (6-2) earned the win. Graduate pitcher Aidan Vanvickle (Fredericksburg, Va./ Riverbend) (1.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 K, 0 BB) earned the save (2). Ryan Cavanaugh (1.1 IP, 1 H, 4 ER, 1 K, 3 BB) (3-1) took the loss.

The Rams return to action on Tuesday when they host Fairmont State for a 2 p.m. game
