Shepherd Baseball Drops Pair to Shippensburg

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Shepherd University (22-24, 9-15 PSAC East) fell twice to Shippensburg (25-19, 12-12 PSAC East) in PSAC East doubleheader baseball action at Shippensburg on Saturday. Shepherd dropped a 5-2 decision in game one and suffered a 7-1 setback in the nightcap.
 
Shepherd took a 1-0 lead in the first inning of game one when junior centerfielder Bodie Pullen (Winchester, Va./James Wood) walked, stole second, and later scored on a wild pitch.
 
The Rams plated a run in the third when Pullen walked and later scored on a wild pitch. 

Shippensburg got the score to 2-1 in the fourth with an AJ Wenrich homer.
 
The Raiders scored three in the fifth to take a 4-2 lead. Carter Hinds had an RBI-double, while Mason Morris and Will Oates added run-scoring singles.
 
Shippensburg capped the scoring in the sixth when Caleb Newcomer was hit-by-pitch and later scored on a Calamia single.  

Conner Bartol (5.0 IP, 1 H, 2 ER, 2 R, 7 K, 3 BB) (4-0) earned the win. Jack Robinson (1.0 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 0 R, 1 K, 0 BB) (4) earned the save. Sophomore pitcher Michael Burnley (Sicklerville, N.J/St. Augustine Prep) (4.2 IP, 5 H, 4 ER, 4 R, 4 K, 1 BB) (2-5) took the loss.

Shepherd took a 1-0 lead in the second inning of the nightcap on a solo blast from junior outfielder Nik Rubendall (East Norriton, Pa./Pope John Paul II).

Shippensburg tied the game 1-1 in the third when Hinds walked and later scored on a wild pitch.

Shippensburg scored two in the fifth when Wenrich and Morris were both hit by pitch and later scored on a double by Oates.

Shippensburg had a four-run inning in the sixth with a two-run single by Carter Arbuthnot highlighting the scoring.

Brenden Anderson (5.0 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 1 R, 3 K, 3 BB) (1-1) earned the win. Jack Robinson (2.0 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 0 R, 6 K, 0 BB) (5) earned the save. Graduate pitcher Aidan Vanvickle (Fredericksburg, Va./ Riverbend) (2.0 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 2 R, 3 K,  0 BB) (0-3) took the loss. 

The Rams return to action on Thursday when they host Bloomsburg for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
