Shepherd Baseball Splits with Bloomsburg

 
SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Shepherd University (23-25, 10-16 PSAC East) split with Bloomsburg  (21-26, 10-16 PSAC East) in PSAC East doubleheader baseball action at Fairfax Field on Thursday. Shepherd dropped a 9-7 decision in game one and rebounded with a 4-3 victory in the nightcap.

Bloomsburg took a 2-0 lead in the first inning of game one on a two-run homer from Mike Miller.

Shepherd took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the first on a three-run blast off the bat of senior third baseman Aidan Greaney (New Windsor, Md./South Carroll/Frederick Community College). 

Bloomsburg tied the game 3-3 in the second when Jacob Reifer singled and scored on a sacrifice fly by Nathan Kress.

The Rams plated two in the third on a two-run blast off the bat of redshirt senior infielder Wyatt Miles (Waterford, Va./Woodgrove /Frederick CC).

Bloomsburg tied the game 5-5 in the fourth on a two-run homer from Josh Wilson. 

The Huskies took a 6-5 lead in the sixth with a solo homer from Anthony Trommer.

Bloomsburg extended the lead to 9-5 in the seventh on a three-run homer by Wilson.

Shepherd added a pair of runs in the seventh when junior outfielder Bodie Pullen (Winchester, Va./James Wood) reached on an error and scored on a sacrifice fly from junior shortstop Ethan Burgreen (Winchester, Va./Millbrook). Miles walked and later scored on a single by freshman catcher Colin Ahart (Pennsauken, N.J./St. Joseph Academy).

 Pullen led the Rams at the plate going 2-for-2 with three runs scored. 

Daniel Koppisch (5.0 IP, 7 H, 5 ER, 6 K, 2 BB) (4-4) earned the win. Pete Modrovsky (2.0 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 0 ER, 1 K, 2 BB) (2) earned the save. Sophomore pitcher Cooper Bryan (Chester Springs, Pa./Malvern Prep) (2.0 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 2 K, 1 BB) (0-1) took the loss. 

Shepherd took a 2-0 lead in the second inning of the nightcap when Pullen singled and later scored on a single by Greaney. Miles singled and later scored on a single by redshirt sophomore outfielder Ethan Jones (Oakton, Va./Oakton). 

Bloomsburg plated one in the third when Kress doubled and scored on a single off the bat of Trommer. 

The Rams took a 3-1 advantage in the third on a solo blast from Greaney. 

Bloomsburg added a run in the sixth on a solo homer by Greg Cristino 

Shepherd capped their score at 4-2 in the sixth when junior shortstop Ethan Burgreen (Winchester, Va./Millbrook) got hit by a pitch and then scored on a single by junior designated hitter Nik Rubendall (East Norriton, Pa./Pope John Paul II).

Bloomsburg cut the lead to 4-3 when Kress doubled and later scored on a single by Corey Daniel.

Greaney led the Rams at the plate with a 2-for-3 effort.

Redshirt sophomore pitcher Daniel Quintana (Haymarket, Va./Paul VI/James Madison) (2.0 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 1 R, 2 K, 1 BB) (8-2) earned the win. Senior pitcher Eli Lam (Elkton, Va./Spotswood / Patrick Henry Community College)  (1.0 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 1 R, 2 K, 0 BB) (3) earned the save. Landon Lorson (6.0 IP, 7 H, 4 ER, 6 K, 1 BB) (1-5) took the loss. 

The Rams return to action on Friday when they travel to Bloomsburg for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
