SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Shepherd University (15-15, 3-7 PSAC East) split with Kutztown (10-19, 3-7) PSAC East) in PSAC East doubleheader baseball action at Fairfax Field on Friday. The Rams earned a 9-4 win in game one and dropped a 4-3 decision in extra innings in the nightcap.
Kutztown took a 1-0 lead in the first inning as Bo Barthol doubled and later scored on a ground out by Dalton Furst.
Shepherd took a 4-1 lead in the bottom of the first with a two-run single by redshirt sophomore outfielder

Kutztown tied the game 4-4 in the third behind RBI-singles by Nick Varda and Cam Burr.
The Rams took a 6-4 lead in the third on a two-run single by redshirt sophomore second baseman

Shepherd took a 7-4 lead when Brookshire hit a sacrifice fly to plate redshirt freshman catcher

Redshirt sophomore pitcher
Daniel Quintana (Haymarket, Va./Paul VI /James Madison) earned the win (5.2 IP, 7 H, 1 ER, 1 K, 2 BB) (4-2). Abel Saft (4.0 IP, 8 H, 6 R, 4 ER, 3 K, 2 BB) (0-5) took the loss.
Kutztown took a 2-0 lead in the third off a solo blast from Nick Vardo and an RBI-single from Michael Burns.
Shepherd got on the board in the third behind an RBI-single from redshirt sophomore outfielder

Kutztown took a 3-1 lead in the fourth on an RBI-single from Vardo.
Shepherd tied the game with a pair of runs in the sixth. Brookshire led off with a single and scored on a sacrifice fly by junior outfielder

Austin Sofran (Swedesboro, N.J./St. Augustine Prep) walked and later scored when Greaney walked with the bases loaded.
Kutztown scored the game-winner in the ninth when Jimmy Kerley was hit-by-pitch with the bases loaded.

Trey Sine (Martinsburg, W.Va./ Martinsburg) went 2-for-4 to lead the Rams.
