Shepherd Softball Takes Pair to Advance to PSAC Tournament Championship Round

QUAKERTOWN, Pa. – Shepherd University (27-21-1) won a pair of games in 2025 PSAC Softball Tournament action at Veterans Field on Friday. The Rams recorded a 10-2 victory over #18 Kutztown (39-16) in five innings in an early game and added an 8-2 triumph over Slippery Rock (29-21) in a later contest. The Rams advance to the championship round on Saturday.
 
Kutztown took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a solo homer by Brianna Stocklin.
 
Shepherd answered back in the bottom of the first on a grand slam by senior shortstop Lexi Clatterbuck (Front Royal, Va./Skyline) to take a 4-1 advantage.
 
Kutztown cut the lead to 4-2 on an RBI-single by Kristin Geesey in the second.
 
Shepherd plated six runs in the third with two-run homers by senior third baseman Lauren Moore (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora/Trevecca Nazarene) and junior catcher Camdyn Noland (Summit Point, W.Va./Washington) and a two-run single by sophomore outfielder Madelyn Chambers (Stafford, Va./Brooke Point) keying the rally.
 
Sophomore first baseman Brenna Collis (Hedgesville, W.Va./Hedgesville), freshman outfielder Haylee Hartman (Keedysville, Md./Boonsboro), Chambers, and Clatterbuck each had a pair of hits for the Rams.
 
Sophomore pitcher Madelayne Ruffner (5.0 IP, 8 H, 2 ER, 7 K, 0 BB) (19-3) picked up the win. Natalee Harvey (2.1 IP, 5 H, 5 ER, 0 K, 2 BB) (5-6) took the loss.
 
Shepherd scored five runs in the second inning against Slippery Rock with a two-run single by Hartman keying the rally.
 
The Rock scored a run in the third on a solo homer by Alexsa Hurd.
 
The Rams added a run in the third on an RBI-double by senior outfielder Sydney Martin-Gonciarz (Frederick, Md./Thomas Johnson/Morgan State).
 
Shepherd took a 7-1 lead in the fifth behind a solo blast by Moore. It was Moore's 10th home run of the season.
               
Slippery Rock added a run in the sixth on an RBI-double by Sydney Brown.
 
Shepherd completed the scoring in the bottom of the sixth when Chambers led off with a double and scored on a double off the bat of Hartman.
 
Chambers, Collis, and Hartman each had a pair of hits to pace the Rams.
 
Emma Kennedy and Naomi Childs each had two hits for Slippery Rock.
 
Freshman pitcher Sam Colaw (Petersburg, W.Va./Petersburg) (7.0 IP, 7 H, 2 ER, 6 K, 3 BB) (6-13) gained the complete game win. Hurd (1.2 IP, 1 H, 3 ER, 0 K, 3 BB) (17-7) took the loss.
                               
The Rams will take on East Stroudsburg at 10 a.m. in the championship round on Saturday. If Shepherd wins that game, the two teams will play again at 12:30 p.m.
