Box Score MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Shepherd University (5-1) recorded a 13-10 victory over Holy Family (1-2) in baseball action at Mylan Park on Sunday afternoon.
Shepherd took a 2-0 lead in the first when sophomore designated hitter Colin Ahart (Pennsauken, N.J./St. Joseph Academy) hit an RBI-single to knock in redshirt sophomore Infielder Ryan Fluharty (Burton, W.Va./Morgantown/USC Upstate. Redshirt junior outfielder Ethan Jones (Oakton, Va./Oakton) reached on a fielder's choice to plate senior first baseman Nik Rubendall (East Norriton, Pa./Pope John Paul II).
The Rams took a 4-0 lead in the second-inning keyed by a two-RBI inning from redshirt junior outfielder Bodie Pullen (Winchester, Va./James Wood) and freshman outfielder Alex Rose (Oakton, Va./Oakton).
Holy Family plated five runs in the top of the fourth to take a 5-4 lead keyed by a homer and later a two-RBI single from Perry Chetney.
Shepherd scored two in the bottom of the fourth to take a 6-5 lead when Pullen and Rose scored a single from Pullen.
Holy Family took a 7-6 lead in the top of the sixth-inning when Andres Rivera hit a two-run blast.
The Rams plated three runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a 9-7 advantage when junior infielder Braylon Conner (Hedgesville, W.Va./Hedgesville/Hagerstown CC) hit a sacrifice bunt to score freshman infielder Etan Rosario (Lanham, Md./Jackson-Reed) and Rose. Connor later scored on a ground out from Pullen.
Shepherd took a 12-7 lead in the seventh-inning when Rosario grounded out scoring junior outfielder Ethan Jones (Oakton, Va./Oakton). Conner added a two-run single.
The Rams capped their scoring at 13 runs in the eighth when Fluharty scored on a passed ball.
Holy Family plated three in the ninth to cap the scoring at 13-10 highlighted by a two-run triple from Jephson Hadson-Taylor.
Fluharty went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and drove in three runs to pace the Rams.
Chetney went 2-for-5 with two runs and three RBIs for Holy Family.
Senior pitcher Devin Mattei (Charles Town, W.Va./Washington) (3.2 IP, 2 H, 2 ER, 2 R, 3 BB, 2 K) (1-0) took the win. Bryan Burtoft (2.1 IP, 0 H, 1 ER, 3 R, 2 BB, 2 K) (0-1) took the loss.
The Rams return to action on Saturday when they travel to Concord for a doubleheader starting at 11 a.m.
