SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Shepherd University (6-11, 1-4 PSAC East) dropped a doubleheader to #22 Shippensburg (14-6, 4-2 PSAC East) in PSAC East softball action at Sara Cree Field on Tuesday. Shippensburg gained a 3-0 win in game one and added a 5-0 triumph in the nightcap.
Shippensburg took a 1-0 lead in game one in the fifth on a solo homer by Rilee Ehrlacher.
The Raiders added a pair of runs in the seventh on a two-run single from Emilee Sullivan.
Dani Hayward (7.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 5 K, 0 BB) (8-2) picked up the win. Junior pitcher
Madelayne Ruffner (Charles Town, W.Va./Washington) (7.0 IP, 2 H, 3 ER, 14 K, 2 BB) (2-5) took the loss. Ruffner's 14 strikeouts are a season-high effort.
The Raiders took a 1-0 lead in the first in the nightcap as Caitlyn Martell led off with a walk and later scored when Reagan Bauman reached on a fielder's choice.
Shippensburg added three runs in the second behind a three-run triple by Bauman.
The Raiders added a run in the seventh as Lindsey Haser reached on an infield single and later scored on a single by Leah Schwalm.
Haser went 3-for-4 to lead the Raiders.
Kaira Zamadics (7.0 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 1K, 2 BB) (1-0) earned the win. Sophomore pitcher
Claire Keyser (Sperryville, Va./Fauquier) (2.0 IP, 4 H, 4 ER, 0 K, 3 BB) (1-1) took the loss.
The Rams return to action on Friday when they travel to Lock Haven for a 2 p.m. doubleheader.
