Shepherd Baseball Knocks Off #21 Seton Hill

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. –  Shepherd University (17-12) handed #21 Seton Hill (21-6) a 10-4 setback in baseball action at Fairfax Field on Tuesday.

Seton Hill took a 2-0 lead in the first inning  with a solo blast from Owen Henne keying the rally.

The Rams took a 4-2 lead in the first with a two-run single from redshirt sophomore utility Colin Ahart (Pennsauken, N.J./St. Joseph Academy) igniting the rally.

Shepherd took a 5-2 lead with a run in the second when freshman infielder Andrew O'Brien (Harrisonburg, Va./Spotswood) walked and later scored on a sacrifice fly from redshirt sophomore infielder Ryan Fluharty (Burton, W.Va./Morgantown/USC Upstate). 

The Rams tacked on three runs in the fifth to take an 8-2 lead. The rally was keyed by a two-run single from Burgreen. 

After the Griffins scored one in the sixth, they added another in the seventh on a solo shot from Gage Wheaton. 

Shepherd added a pair of runs in the eighth to cap the scoring behind an RBI-double from senior first baseman Nik Rubendall (East Norriton, Pa./Pope John Paul II) and an RBI-single from redshirt junior pinch-hitter Wyatt Lamb (Asbury, W.Va./Mt. Calvary Christian School (Pa.).

Burgreen and Ahart each had a pair of hits for the Rams. 

Henne, McGuire, Colin Ahr, and Wheaton each had a pair of hits to pace the Griffins.

Senior pitcher Devin Mattei (Charles Town, W.Va./Washington) (1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 K, 1 BB) (3-1) earned the win. Lucas Turner (0.2 IP, 2 H, 4 ER, 1 K, 2 BB) (1-1) took the loss.

The Rams return to action Friday when they host Mansfield for a doubleheader at 1 p.m.
