SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Shepherd University (3-5) split a doubleheader with Pace (2-2) in softball action at Sara Cree Field on Sunday. The Rams gained a 9-4 win in game one and dropped a 3-2 decision in the nightcap.
The Rams took a 3-0 lead in the first inning in game one as the Rams took advantage of three hits and a pair of errors. Sophomore designated player/pitcher Sam Colaw (Petersburg, W.Va./Petersburg) drove in a run on a ground-out to key the scoring.
Pace rallied with a pair of runs in the second. Bella Cardona had an RBI-single, and Kaylee Mashuda drove in a run when she walked with the bases loaded.
The Setters took a 4-3 lead in the fourth on a two-run double by Mashuda.
Shepherd tied the game in the bottom of the fourth as freshman infielder
Hailey Putnam (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) walked and later scored on a single off the bat of freshman outfielder
Lexi McAllister (Mechanicsville, Md./Chopticon).
The Rams plated five runs in the sixth to earn the win. Colaw belted a two-run homer to key the rally. McAllister hit an RBI-double, while sophomore outfielder
Haylee Hartman (Keedysville, Md./Boonsboro) added an RBI-single.
McAllister went 3-for-4, and junior infielder
Cate Russian (Manassas, Va./Colgan) added a pair of hits to lead a 10-hit attack for the Rams.
Colaw (3.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 K, 0 BB) (1-1) picked up the win in relief. Sophie D'Orazio-Lelli (3.0 IP, 5 H, 5 ER, 0 K, 2 BB) (0-1) took the loss.
Willa Poplawski hit a two-run single in the sixth to key a three-run rally for the Setters in the nightcap.
Shepherd rallied with a pair of runs in the seventh on a two-run single by Russian, but Pace held on for the win.

Jordan Gugliuzza (Frederick, Md./Thomas Johnson) went 3-for-3 to lead the Rams. Hartman added a pair of hits.
Ashley Field went 2-for-3 for the Setters.
Priscilla Del Toro (6.0 IP, 7 H, 2 ER, 3 K, 1 BB) (1-0) earned the win. Alyssa Smart (1.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 K, 0 BB) gained the save (1). Junior pitcher
Madelayne Ruffner (Charles Town, W.Va./Washington) (7.0 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 13 K, 1 BB) (1-3) took the loss.
The Rams return to action on Wednesday when they host Fairmont State for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
