SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Shepherd University (17-17, 12-10 PSAC East) swept a doubleheader with Lock Haven (23-15, 13-9 PSAC East) in PSAC East softball action at Sara Cree Field on Friday. The Rams recorded a 2-0 win in game one and added a 4-1 triumph in the nightcap.
Shepherd took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning in game one when sophomore outfielder
Haylee Hartman (Keedysville, Md./Boonsboro) led off with a single and moved to second on a single by junior first baseman
Brenna Collis (Hedgesville, W.Va./Hedgesville). Hartman and Collis moved up on a sacrifice by freshman infielder
Hailey Putnam (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville). Hartman scored from third on a wild pitch.
The Rams added a run in the sixth on a solo homer by Collis.
Collis went 2-for-3 to pace the Rams.
Junior pitcher
Madelayne Ruffner (Charles Town, W.Va./Washington) (7.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 16 K, 0 BB) (9-7) earned the complete game win. Talia Ross (6.0 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 9 K, 2 BB) (14-5) took the loss.
Shepherd took a 2-0 lead in the second in the nightcap behind a two-run double off the bat of sophomore outfielder
Payton Weaver (Fairplay, Md./Williamsport).
The Rams added a pair of runs in the fourth as sophomore pinch-hitter
Allison Gray (Berkeley Springs, W.Va./Berkeley Springs) and junior infielder
Cate Russian (Manassas, Va./Colgan) each drove in a run.
Lock Haven got a run in the seventh on an RBI-single by Hailey Irwin.
Senior pitcher
Natalee Harvey (St. Albans, Vt./Missisquoi Valley Union/Kutztown) (6.1 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 8 K, 5 BB) (6-6) gained the win. Ruffner (0.2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 K, 0 BB) earned the save (4). Keiva Middleton (3.0 IP, 3 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 1 K, 3 BB) (3-4) took the loss.
The Rams return to action on Saturday when they host Mansfield for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
