SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Shepherd University (18-18, 13-11 PSAC East) split a doubleheader with Mansfield (6-26, 3-21 PSAC East) in PSAC East softball action at Sara Cree Field on Saturday. The Rams recorded a 4-0 win in game one, while Mansfield grabbed a 9-3 victory in the nightcap.
Shepherd took a 1-0 lead in the first inning in game one when junior infielder
Cate Russian (Manassas, Va./Colgan) doubled and scored on a single by junior first baseman
Brenna Collis (Hedgesville, W.Va./Hedgesville).
The Rams added a run in the third as Russian reached on an error and later scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of sophomore infielder
Jordan Gugliuzza (Frederick, Md./Thomas Johnson).
The Rams added two runs in the sixth behind an RBI-double from junior catcher
Madelyn Chambers (Stafford, Va./Brooke Point) and an RBI-single from Russian.

Lexi McAllister (Mechanicsville, Md./Chopticon), Russian, and Collis each had a pair of hits for the Rams.
Junior pitcher
Madelayne Ruffner (Charles Town, W.Va./Washington) (7.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 14 K, 2 BB) (10-7) earned the complete game win. Reilly Storer (6.0 IP, 9 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 1 K, 1 BB) (1-7) took the loss.

Mansfield plated seven runs in the fourth with a grand slam by Shannon Perlungher keying the scoring.
Putnam added an RBI-single in the fifth to cut the lead to 7-3.
The Mountaineers added a two-run single in the sixth to cap the scoring.
Hartman and Collis each had a pair of hits for the Rams.
Emma Maurer went 3-for-4 for the Mountaineers.
Maurer (7.0 IP, 8 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 4 K, 4 BB) (3-5) gained the win. Senior pitcher
Natalee Harvey (St. Albans, Vt./Missisquoi Valley Union/Kutztown) (3.2 IP, 3 H, 6 ER, 1 K, 3 BB) (6-7) took the loss.
The Rams return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Shippensburg for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
