Shepherd Softball Splits with #25 Shippensburg

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Shepherd University (19-19, 14-12 PSAC East) split a doubleheader with #25 Shippensburg (28-14, 15-9 PSAC East) in PSAC East softball action at Shippensburg on Tuesday. The Raiders recorded a 9-1 win in five innings in game one, while Shepherd gained the split with a 3-0 triumph in the nightcap.
 
Shepherd took a 1-0 lead in the second inning in the nightcap as junior first baseman Brenna Collis (Hedgesville, W.Va./Hedgesville) singled and later scored on a single by sophomore designated player Sam Colaw (Petersburg, W.Va./Petersburg).
 
The Rams added a run in the third when freshman outfielder Lexi McAllister (Mechanicsville, Md./Chopticon) reached on a single and scored on a double by sophomore outfielder Haylee Hartman (Keedysville, Md./Boonsboro).
 
Shepherd capped the scoring with a solo homer from Colaw in the seventh.
 
Collis and Colaw each had a pair of hits to lead the Rams.
 
Reagan Bauman went 2-for-3 for the Raiders.
 
Junior pitcher Madelayne Ruffner (Charles Town, W.Va./Washington) (7.0 IP, 6 H, 0 R, 19 K, 1 BB) (11-7) earned the complete game win. Kaira Zamadics (7.0 IP, 7 H, 3 ER, 4 K, 1 BB) (4-4) took the loss.
 
Shippensburg took a 6-0 lead in the first inning in game one. A two-run single by Rilee Ehrlacher keyed the rally.
 
The Raiders added an unearned run in the second to take a 7-0 lead.
 
Shepherd got on the board in the third as sophomore outfielder Payton Weaver (Fairplay, Md./Williamsport) reached on a hit-by-pitch and later scored on a single by Hartman.
 
Shippensburg added single runs in the third and fourth to take a 9-1 lead to end the game early in the fifth due to the eight-run rule.  
 
Dani Hayward  (5.0 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 K, 0 BB) (19-4) gained the win. Senior pitcher Natalee Harvey (St. Albans, Vt./Missisquoi Valley Union/Kutztown) (0.1 IP, 4 H, 6 ER, 0 K, 2 BB) (6-8) took the loss.
 
The Rams return to action on Friday when they host Kutztown for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
