Shepherd Baseball Splits with East Stroudsburg

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – Shepherd University (26-20, 12-12 PSAC East) split with East Stroudsburg (31-13, 17-7 PSAC East) in PSAC East baseball doubleheader action at East Stroudsburg on Friday. East Stroudsburg gained a 5-3 win in game one, while Shepherd earned a split with a 7-1 triumph in the nightcap.
Shepherd took a 2-0 lead in the second inning of game one. Senior first baseman Nik Rubendall (East Norriton, Pa./Pope John Paul II) was hit by a pitch and later scored on a throwing error to key the rally.

East Stroudsburg scored one in the fifth when Connor Reilly singled and later scored on a single from Gabe Gillespie. 

The Warriors took a 5-2 lead in the sixth behind a two-run single from Cole Serfass.

The Rams scored a run in the seventh. Freshman infielder Andrew O'Brien (Harrisonburg, Va./Spotswood) singled and later scored on a ground out from redshirt junior shortstop Ethan Burgreen (Winchester, Va./Millbrook).

Serfass went 2-for-2 with one run scored with a pair of RBIs to pace the Warriors.

Kyle Phillips (1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 K, 2 BB) (1-0) earned the win. Cole Dymek (1.0 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 K, 0 BB) (5 S) earned the save. Freshman pitcher Gavin Miller (Exeter Township, Pa./Exeter Township Senior) (5.1 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 1 K, 2 BB) (3-6) took the loss. 

In the second inning of the nightcap East Stroudsburg took a 1-0 lead when Troy Davis doubled and later scored on a Serfass double. 

The Rams gained a 4-1 advantage in the fourth behind RBI-doubles from Rubendall and freshman outfielder Cam Wilberding (Damascus, Md./Damascus).

Redshirt junior outfielder Bodie Pullen (Winchester, Va./James Wood) hit a three-run homer in the sixth to cap the scoring at 7-1. 

Pullen had a pair of hits with one run scored and three RBIs to pace the Rams. 

Senior pitcher Devin Mattei (Charles Town, W.Va./Washington) (7.0 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 K, 3 BB) (5-2) earned the win. Peyton Brannock (5.0 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 2 ER,  5 K, 1 BB) (4-3) took the loss. 

The Rams return to action on Thursday when they travel to Shippensburg for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
