Shepherd Softball Splits with West Chester

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Shepherd University (21-21, 15-15 PSAC East) split a doubleheader with West Chester (25-23, 16-14 PSAC East) in PSAC East softball action at Sara Cree Field on Friday. The Rams recorded a 3-1 win in game one, while West Chester posted an 8-2 victory in the nightcap.
 
Shepherd took a 2-0 lead in the third inning in game one as sophomore outfielder Payton Weaver (Fairplay, Md./Williamsport) singled and later scored on a double off the bat of freshman outfielder Lexi McAllister (Mechanicsville, Md./Chopticon). McAllister scored on a single by sophomore outfielder Haylee Hartman (Keedysville, Md./Boonsboro).
 
McAllister reached on an error in the fifth and scored on a single by Hartman to give the Rams a 3-0 advantage.

West Chester got a run in the sixth on a sacrifice fly by Ceara O'Neal.
 
Hartman led the Rams with a pair of hits.
 
Junior pitcher Madelayne Ruffner (Charles Town, W.Va./Washington) (Charles Town, W.Va./Washington) (7.0 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 8 K, 3 BB) (13-7) earned the complete game win. Maci Strechay (7.0 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 1 K, 1 BB) (4-10) took the loss.
 
West Chester took advantage of two hits and two errors to take a 2-0 lead in the first in the nightcap.
 
Shepherd cut the lead to 2-1 in the second on an RBI-single by Weaver.
 
The Golden Rams added four runs in the third to take a 6-1 lead. Gianna Liciardelli, Kayla Fitzpatrick, and O'Neal each drove in a run.
 
The Rams added a run in the fourth on a sacrifice fly by sophomore Allison Gray (Berkeley Springs, W.Va./Berkeley Springs).
 
Fitzpatrick went 3-for-4 to lead the Golden Rams.
 
Weaver went 3-for-3 to pace the Rams.
 
Danielle Ciliberto (5.2 IP, 8 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 1 K, 0 BB) (11-9) gained the win. Senior pitcher Natalee Harvey (St. Albans, Vt./Missisquoi Valley Union/Kutztown) (6.0 IP, 8 H, 8 R, 6 ER, 4 K, 3 BB) (6-9) took the loss.
 
The Rams return to action on Saturday when they travel to Millersville for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
