Shepherd Men Run Past Lincoln

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Senior guard Steffen Davis (Accokeek, Md./Maret School) scored 20 points and sophomore guard Thomas Lang (New Market, Md./Linganore) added 19 to lead Shepherd University to a 93-63 win over Lincoln University in men's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Saturday.

Davis hit on 7-of-15 field goals with a 5-of-11 effort from three-point range. He was 1-of-1 from the charity stripe. Lang connected on 6-of-12 field goals with a 5-of-8 performance from beyond the arc. He was 2-for-2 from the line.

Junior forward Winston Burgess (Stafford, Va./Colonial Forge) had 17 points and eight boards, while senior forward Gavin McTavish (Mt. Airy, Md./South Carroll/Bridgton Academy) contributed 13 points and eight rebounds.

Senior forward AJ Carr (Fairfax, Va./St. James School) nearly posted a triple-double as he had 12 points, a game-high 10 assists, and eight rebounds.

Sean James had 16 points and Elijah Bush added 14 for the Lions. Gevon Arrington had 12 points and Deaquan Williams had six points and grabbed a game-high 16 rebounds.Shepherd (6-6) had a 43-34 lead at the break. Davis had 18 first-half points, while Lang added 11 to pace the Rams.

The Rams got back-to-back three-pointers from Lang and freshman guard Cam Stephens (Bunker Hill, W.Va./Musselman) to open the second half and take a 15-point advantage at 49-34 with 18:44 remaining.

Lincoln (6-7) rallied to within nine points at 56-47 after Arrington hit a pair of free throws with 14:25 left in the game. Shepherd answered back with a three-pointer by McTavish at the 14:06 mark and led by double digits the rest of the way.

Shepherd connected on 49.3 percent (34-69) from the floor with a 44.1 percent (15-34) performance from beyond the arc for the game. The Rams hit on 76.9 percent (10-13) of their free throws.

Lincoln shot 31.7 percent (20-63) from the floor with a 21.4 percent effort (6-28) from three-point range. The Lions shot 77.3 percent (17-22) from the charity stripe.

Shepherd had a 45-39 advantage in rebounding. The Rams forced 10 turnovers and committed seven.

The Rams return to action on Thursday when they host Concord for a 7:30 p.m. game.
