Shepherd Baseball Falls to #13/18 East Stroudsburg

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Shepherd University (13-7, 3-2 PSAC East) dropped a 14-4 decision to #13/18 East Stroudsburg (18-3, 2-1 PSAC East) in PSAC East baseball action at Fairfax Field on Monday. 

Holding a 2-1 lead, East Stroudsburg took advantage of two hits and four walks to plate four runs in the third inning to gain a 6-1 advantage. 

Shepherd added a run in the third when senior shortstop Cole Daugherty (Red Lion, Pa./Red Lion) walked and scored on a triple off the bat of redshirt-sophomore outfielder Sam Daggers (Galloway, N.J./Absegami/Rowan Gloucester CC). 

The Warriors scored a run in the fourth and added five more in the seventh with a two-run single by Jeremy Piatkiewicz keying the rally. 

Piatkiewicz hit an RBI-single in the eighth for the Warriors before Shepherd answered back in the bottom of the frame with back-to-back solo homers by Daggers and senior first baseman Ross Mulhall (Morgantown, W.Va./University/Gardner-Webb). 

East Stroudsburg added a run in the ninth on an RBI-single by Tim Haverstick. 

Daggers went 3-for-5 and drove in three runs to lead the Rams. Mulhall and senior second baseman Ryan Haddaway (Poolesville, Md./Poolesville) each added a pair of hits. 

Jack Rothenhausler had three hits to lead the Warriors. 

Nick McAuliffe (5.2 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 7 K, 2 BB) (2-1) picked up the win. Senior pitcher Tanner Dixon (Frederick, Md./Frederick) (2.0 IP, 5 H, 5 ER, 2 K, 5 BB) (2-1) took the loss. 

The Rams are slated to return to action on Thursday when they host Bloomsburg for a 2 p.m. contest. The game was moved up from Friday due to weather concerns.
