MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – Shepherd University (24-19, 7-14 PSAC East) dropped a doubleheader to #8/13 Millersville (34-6, 16-2 PSAC East) in PSAC East baseball action at Millersville on Sunday. Millersville gained a 16-2 win in game one and added a 9-6 win in the nightcap.
After taking a 3-0 lead in the first inning in game one, Millersville added five runs in the third to take an 8-0 advantage. John Seibert had a two-run homer to key the rally.
Shepherd scored a pair of runs in the fourth. Senior first baseman Ross Mulhall (Morgantown, W.Va./University/Gardner-Webb) singled and redshirt-sophomore outfielder Sam Daggers (Galloway, N.J./Absegami/Rowan Gloucester CC) followed with a double. They both later scored on a single off the bat of graduate student third baseman Connor Dewees (Red Lion, Pa./Red Lion).
The Marauders added six runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 14-2 lead. Thomas Caufield hit a three-run homer and Chase Simmons added a two-run triple to spark the rally.
Millersville added a pair of runs in the fifth to complete the scoring.
Caufield went 3-for-4 with five runs batted in and four runs for Millersville.
Daggers went 3-for-3 to lead the Rams.
Carson Kulina (6.0 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 6 K, 0 BB) (7-1) gained the win. Redshirt-junior pitcher Jake Andrey (Cherry Hill, N.J./King's Christian) (2.1 IP, 7 H, 8 R, 7 ER, 2 K, 2 BB) (0-2) took the loss.
After taking a 1-0 lead in the second inning in the nightcap, Millersville scored four runs in the third with a three-run homer by Cole Houser keying the rally.
Shepherd plated four runs in the sixth with a three-run homer by junior outfielder Idris Carter (Uniondale, N.Y./Roosevelt/Stony Brook) keying the rally.
Millersville got an RBI-double by Bren Taylor in the bottom of the sixth to take a 6-4 lead.
Daggers tied the game in the seventh with a two-run single.
The Marauders got an RBI-double from Taylor and a two-run homer by Caufield in the eighth to pull away for the win.
Taylor went 4-for-5 to lead the Marauders.
Daggers had a pair of hits for the Rams.
Evan Rishell (2.1 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 2 K, 2 BB) (3-0) picked up the win. Junior pitcher Aaron Snyder (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg/Canisius) (2.2 IP, 3 H, 3 ER, 3 K, 2 BB) (1-1) took the loss for the Rams.
The Rams return to action on Friday when they travel to Lock Haven for a 2 p.m. contest
