SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Sophomore forward Josh Petty (Bel Air, Md./John Carroll/Queens University of Charlotte) scored a pair of goals to lead Shepherd University (3-4-0) to a 3-0 victory over Slippery Rock (2-3-1) in men's soccer action at Shepherd on Saturday.
Shepherd took a 1-0 lead at the 53:34 mark when Petty scored on an assist from sophomore forward Sterling Harris (Cheltenham, Md. Bishop McNamara).
The Rams took a 2-0 lead at the 66:47 mark on an unassisted goal from redshirt junior forward/midfielder Mac Long (Boonsboro, Md./Boonsboro/Hagerstown Community College).
Shepherd completed the scoring at the 73:13 mark on an unassisted tally by Petty.
Sophomore goalkeeper Aidan Houck (Ellicott City, Md./Marriotts Ridge) posted four saves in a shutout performance for the Rams. Alvey Kaufman recorded two saves for The Rock.
Slippery Rock had a 9-7 advantage in shots. The Rams had a 5-4 edge in shots on goal. Corner kicks were even at two each.
The Rams return to action on Wednesday when they host Shippensburg for a 3:30 p.m. match.
