BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – Shepherd University (15-9, 3-1 PSAC East) split with Bloomsburg (10-6, 1-3 PSAC East) in baseball doubleheader action at Bloomsburg on Sunday. The Rams dropped a 5-1 decision in game one and gained a 9-5 win in five innings (called early due to rain) in the nightcap.
Redshirt junior outfielder Ethan Jones (Oakton, Va./Oakton) hit a solo blast in the second inning of the opener to give Shepherd a 1-0 lead.
Bloomsburg tied the game 1-1 in the second when Anthony Trommer singled and later scored on an RBI-single from Jace Jarmon.
Bloomsburg added a run in the fourth and another in the fifth to take a 3-1 lead.
The Huskies scored two in the sixth to cap the score at 5-1. Jarmon hit a solo homer to key the scoring.
Jones went 1-for-3 to pace the Rams.
Jarmon went 2-for-3 with one run and two runs batted in to pace the Huskies.
Aiden Murphy (6. IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 10 K) (4-0) earned the win. Freshman pitcher Gavin Miller (Exeter Township, Pa./Exeter Township Senior) (4.1 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 0 K) (1-3) took the loss.
Shepherd took a 6-0 lead in the first inning of the nightcap with a grand slam from redshirt sophomore utility Colin Ahart (Pennsauken, N.J./St. Joseph Academy) highlighting the rally.
Bloomsburg scored one in the first when Grant Russo singled and later scored on a sacrifice fly from Mike Miller.
Sophomore infielder Ryan Fluharty (Burton, W.Va./Morgantown/USC Upstate) belted a two-run blast in the second to key a three-run second and give the Rams a 9-1 advantage.
The Huskies added two runs in the bottom of the frame on run-scoring singles from Russo and Casey O'Brien.
Bloomsburg scored one in the fourth when Joe Levis singled and later scored on a throwing error.
Fluharty went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and drove in three to pace the Rams.
Russo went 3-for-3 with two runs scored and drove in another to pace the Huskies.
Sophomore pitcher Conner Chancey (Inwood, W.Va./Musselman/West Liberty) (2.0 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K) (1-0) earned the win. Landon Lorson (0.0 IP, 2 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 2 BB, 0 K) (2-2) took the loss
The Rams return to action Friday when they host Millersville for a doubleheader at 1 p.m.
