Shepherd Baseball Sweeps Charleston

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. –  Shepherd University (11-3) swept  Charleston (1-13) in doubleheader baseball action at Fairfax Field on Saturday. The Rams gained a 9-6 victory in the opener and added an 11-5 win in the nightcap.

Junior outfielder Bodie Pullen (Winchester, Va./James Wood) doubled and later scored on a double from redshirt sophomore infielder Ryan Fluharty (Burton, W.Va./Morgantown/USC Upstate) to give Shepherd a 1-0 lead in the first inning in game one. 

Charleston tied the game in the top of the second when Andrew Kobryn walked and scored on a ground out by Ryan Comella. 

The Rams plated one in the second when freshman infielder Evan Rosario (Lanham, Md./Jackson-Reed) singled and scored on a Pullen ground out.

The Golden Eagles tied the game at 2-2 when Samuel Lemond doubled and later scored on a RBI-single from Trent Dosenbach.

Shepherd plated three in the third highlighted by a RBI-double from Rosario.

Charleston scored one when Hunter Howell singled and later scored on a ground out by Damian Witty.

The Rams took an 8-3 lead in the fifth with a solo-blast from junior outfielder Ethan Jones (Oakton, Va./Oakton) keying the rally. 

Charleston scored two in the sixth on a two-run homer from Lemond. 

The Golden Eagles capped the scoring at 9-6 when Dosenbach doubled and later scored on a RBI from Howell. 

Pullen went 2-for-4 with two runs and three RBI to pace the Rams.

Lemond went 4-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI for the Golden Eagles.

Senior pitcher Allen Miller (Mechanicsville, Md./Chopticon) (5.0 IP, 7 H, 3 ER, 3 R, 4 BB, 4 K) (2-1) earned the win.  Devin Fletcher  (3.2 IP, 8 H, 5 ER, 7 R, 1 BB, 4 K) (0-1) took the loss. 

Charleston took a 1-0 lead in the first inning in the nightcap when Witty singled and later scored on a single by Dosenbach. 

Shepherd tied the game in the bottom of the frame when Pullen walked, reached second on a wild pitch, stole third, and scored on a throwing error. 

The Rams took a 2-1 lead in the second when freshman outfielder Alex Rose  (Oakton, Va./Oakton)  walked and scored on a RBI-single from junior infielder Braylon Conner (Hedgesville, W.Va./Hedgesville/Hagerstown CC) 

The Golden Eagles scored three runs in the third to take a 4-2 lead. 

Logan Bradish hit a solo homer to give Charleston a 5-2 lead in the fourth.

Shepherd rallied with nine runs on five hits in the fifth to take an 11-5 advantage. Rosario hit a two-run homer and a three-run blast to key the scoring.

Rosario went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and drove in five runs to pace the Rams.

Dosenbach went 2-for-3 and drove in two runs for the Golden Eagles.

Freshman pitcher Gavin Miller (Exeter Township, Pa./Exeter Township Senior)  (5.0 IP, 7 H, 4 ER, 5 R, 1 BB, 2 K) (1-2) earned the win.  William Van Meter  (1.0 IP, 4 H, 4 ER, 7 R, 2 BB, 1 K) (0-3) took the loss. 

The Rams return to action on Sunday at Fairfax Field when they host Charleston for a doubleheader at 11 a.m.
